Saturday's Extended Market
This Saturday's Otago Farmers Market is tipped to be the busiest market since it began eight years ago with part of Anzac Ave closed off and extended hours.
With large crowds expected for the Rugby World Cup the market site will be extended on to Anzac Ave to cope with all the extra visitors to the city on each Saturday that Dunedin is hosting pool matches.
Customers can still use the Cadbury's carpark and the park at the northern end of the market. The large car park behind the Station Apartments will also be available.
The majority of vendors selling food to eat and buskers will be placed on Anzac Ave but most of our customer's favourite vendors will be in their usual places.
“We are catering for new people to town by extending the market site but you will have no problems doing your weekly shop,” says John More, general manager of the Otago Farmers Market Trust.
In a first for vendors at the market, the opening hours will be extended for this coming Saturday when Dunedin hosts the England Argentina Rugby World Cup match.
Vendors have voted to extend the hours so the market finishes on those days, including this Saturday, at 1.30pm instead of 12.30pm
England plays Argentina this Saturday, September 10 and Pablo, from Evandale Cheese, who was born in Argentina, is confident they will win the game. Resident Englishman Steve Turner has other ideas.
Whatever the result, organisers are confident with the extra space and setting, visitors will be able to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the market.
