Otago Farmers Market Kitchen

In February 2010 the Otago Farmers Market Trust launched the market kitchen. The Otago Farmers Market Kitchen is a totally self-contained portable kitchen, used to teach people how to make the most of the produce that you will find at the market.

Every week we select the best seasonal products from the market, then create fabulous dishes that we demonstrate through the mobile kitchen. Every dish demonstrated comes with a free recipe and a sample to taste.

Market Chefs

The Saturday morning cooking demonstrations are shared by our chefs on a rotational basis.

Sandra Kellian
Sandra is a chef at a local eatery. She loves fresh seasonal food, and believes in buying locally as much as possible and using the produce to create interesting and imaginative dishes.

Sandra is a very experienced chef and is well known to many Dunedin people from her long-time ownership of the Inch Bar where she created delicious tapa inspired dishes both in-house and for out catering.

Adam Doesburg
Adam undertook his culinary arts training at WelTec with Chef Ray Morrell, and after graduating with a top student award, went on to complete a patisserie qualification with Chef Paul Gibbs. 

Ever enamoured by the variety of raw materials available to chefs and increasingly curious about the work behind such produce, Adam enrolled in evening classes and completed a Certificate in Organic Horticulture through Otago’s own rural polytechnic, Telford. He also completed a weeklong artisan course at the New Zealand’s Cheese School in Putararu.

Rain, hail or shine Adam is excited to be working with such a talented, passionate and dedicated group of food enthusiasts and looks forward to meeting market regulars and visitors alike.

From time to time vendors from the market will use the market kitchen to showcase their own products. There are many qualified chefs who trade at the market, so watch out for the occasional demonstration from your favourite vendor bringing their brand of panache and flair to the kitchen.
