This Week at the Farmers Market

Hi there

I am looking forward to this weekend's market with the forecast promising a slightly better conclusion to the end of the week. The market always has a great atmosphere on a warm day, with our local buskers setting the scene, students back from break, and the spring flowers that are starting to pop up, not to mention the new selection of spring produce that is starting to coming through! 

Michele is away on annual leave this week, however I will be stationed at the Market office by the main gates, happy to answer any questions or concerns! 

I hope you all have a great end to your week, and look forward to seeing every one shopping on Saturday!

Bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only. Remember your keep cup / mug (if you forget, check with your beverage vendor if they have spares to borrow to save on a single use throw out cups – which are just not cool!), I will keep supplying them with cups where needed, it’s up to us all to make use of this.  And remember your containers, produce bags.

This Week in the kitchen

Pickled onions are a must-have in the flat fridge this year, and you can find my flatmates and I put them on top of almost every dinner we have, making some questionable combinations. They are so easy to make (less than 5 minutes) and go great with stir-fries and rice bowls. Salmon has also been a dish that I lean towards when I m not in the mood for cooking as it does most of the work for you!

What is Marie’s Tempeh? 

Most of the time, when you buy tempeh, it is pasteurised or “fresh frozen” and it is made from soybeans. My tempeh is freshly made each week from different beans, cereals, and seeds. It has a delicate flavour and the texture can vary depending on the mix. It needs to be kept in the fridge and will be fresh for the next 7 days. You can also freeze it for up to 9 months. Tempeh is full of protein, vitamins, minerals, lots of dietary fibre, and much more! Because of fermentation, it is an easily digestible food and full of plant-based protein. There are so many ways you can cook and use it: steamed, boiled, deep fried, pan-fried, and baked. You can use it in salads, kebabs, soups, stews, bolognese, and burgers!
