Summertime and the Living is Easy

11th January 2018

Hi there

IMG_20180106_105559.jpg

Welcome back to all you holiday makers - we are looking forward to seeing you back at the market this Saturday. The forecast is looking good and there will be tons of fresh, tasty produce on offer.

The first of the new season figs will be available. You will find the Pauley family of Cromwell up on the platform where The Porridge Bar normally are. Many of you seek out these delicacies so be sure to get in bright and early to make sure you get some! The Porridge Bar will be back next week.

We would like to welcome a new family of fruit growers to our ranks. Waitaki Orchards is very much a family affair with all 8 children involved in the running of the orchard and the production of delicious baked goods and preserves from their excess fruit. Many of you will have seen them feature on Country Calendar towards the end of last year. Make sure you go and say hello and be sure to try the apricot galette - it is to die for! They are up on the platform next to Holy Cow.

We also have a surprise return of Naoko from Jar Up. She will have her delicious kimchi available for just one more week so if your stocks are low be sure to replenish them before she leaves entirely.

See you Saturday

Kate

Steamer Basin Brewing

SPECIAL THIS WEEK

We’re back this week with a beer that’s definitely different. Champagne Nettle is a trial batch for this year’s Wild Dunedin festival, brewed with stinging nettle and fermented with champagne yeast.

Made with nettle picked on the Peninsula, this lightly sparkling beer has a floral aroma and a bright green note.

If you make your own nettle wine, please stop and try this drop — we’d love your feedback!

Produce Bags

Remember to pick up your recycled net curtain produce bags from the site office. At this time of year with so many tasty fruit at the market there are too many reasons not to have some. We are asking for $2  for these so that we can continue to make more.

Also please remember to drop off your clean, undamaged super market bags to the site office. We re-cycle these throughout the market.
