Hi there
Banger alert! Introducing some fantastic new vendors this week. Many of you are probably familiar with your friendly local butcher Princes St Butcher, well now their terrific hand-crafted sausages (yes, I am a fan of a good snarler) are available at their new stall beside La Crepe if you can’t get to their shop. They will be bringing quality secondary cuts of meat as well, with plenty of tips on how to cook these less expensive but flavoursome cuts. The Princes St boys celebrate ingredients from Havoc Farm Pork & Cardrona Lamb & other ingredients from the Market as well.
Now…. Let us take you on a voyage. From Goa, an Indian paradise, to new beginnings in the heat of Kenya. From a chance meeting in Scotland to the hustle and bustle of London Town. Across the seas to the tranquility of Dunedin and this is where OUR story begins. Well-travelled secret family recipes adapted and perfected along the way. An irresistible treat. One taste and you're hooked. Well; this is the story from Danielle at Tartan Sari, you will find her wee stall selling spicy vegan Goan pickles & curry pastes up on the platform from this weekend. Danielle is a near neighbour of mine, so my serious spicy carrot pickle addiction kicked in a few months back when word got around the hood on just how good her pickles were. My delicious daily poached Agreeable Nature eggs aren’t the same without it!
Paulina & Jose from Tunanopal Mexican are moving to the other end of the lower market beside Jia He & coKo Lounge, or just ask us at the black caravan office if you need to find any of the vendors.
Don’t miss out on juicy sweetcorn from Simon at Rosedale Orchard while it lasts & Nigel at Oamaru Organics now has organic celery available so get blending, juicing, cooking, chopping, crunching…. Where else are you going to get such great prices for freshly picked organic celery & produce as you cut out the middleman & buy direct from the growers at the Market. Remember your vege bags, scan in & get on in there Saturday morn, so much fresh new season produce to choose from at Ettrick Gardens & all as well samples around the market for you to try before you buy...
See you at the Market!
Ngā mihi

This Week in the kitchen
Our new chef Amy is getting all her ducks in a row for her debut next week, but in the meantime, here are some delicious seasonal recipes that make use of (just some of) the abundant produce available around the market at the moment. Grab one of those massive fennel bulbs from Ettrick Gardens, some yummy potatoes from Oamarau Organics and whip yourself up an easy & tasty soup. Or if you are feeling indulgent and need a new way to gorge on the last of the apricots, why not pop one in some sourdough with some melty cheese? Holy smokes....
