Hi there
Asparagus, paeonies, strawberries, new potatoes, warm weather, BBQ’s sizzling, what’s not to like about this time of year! The market has started humming towards the silly season with more vendors back every week. This week Bev from Blueskin Flowers will be present with gorgeous bunches of paeonies and Rod will be back with asparagus.
There are a few changes afoot at the market with a bit of vendor movement scheduled to happen next Saturday, 23rd November. I’ll update you in next week’s newsletter so watch this space!
We are mightily pleased with how our market hub has spruced up with a coat of paint and graphics. It is pretty much a year exactly since we first brought it to the market and we feel well pleased that the final stages of its metamorphosis has been completed.
Just another reminder that there will be an extra market this year on Tuesday 24th December from 6.30am – 10.30am. This is the ideal opportunity to buy fresh as berries, new potatoes, salad greens and herbs, cherries and all the other components of your Christmas feast. Early stone fruit should be in abundance as will new season garlic. The market is also an ideal place to pick up last minute gifts for the foodies in your life.
See you Saturday

Waste Warrior Volunteers WANTED
|
The market relies on our wonderful Waste Warrior Volunteers every week (like Meg pictured here) to keep our waste to an absolute minimum. Issac at Doubt Not collects all the compostables at the end of each market to be shredded and broken down into work filled compost, which is then used to pot up seedlings that eventually end up reforesting Dunedin's hillsides. Pretty cool, eh! He can only do this if everyone has put their rubbish in the correct green, yellow, blue & red bins guided by our friendly waste educator volunteers. Our aim is to get to zero waste at the market in the not to distant future. We are proud of the work we do at the market & if you would like to volunteer weekly or fortnightly or even once a month then pop by the black market caravan at the front gate to have a chat to Kate, Michele or Ted. We are needing more people for the 8am - 10am shift as we currently have plenty of wonderful Uni students from Japan helping us in the later shift.
Big shout out to Waste Hero's - Millie, Monica, Rachel, Meg, Tom, Jake, Matt, Telagi, Taketo, Yurino, Yoshiki, Hina, Shiho, Mikoto, Tomohiro, Shutara, Saaya, Shuto, Rion, Shiori, Yui & all the other volunteers we have helping this year.... We think they are amazing! Let them know they are doing a great job when you see them next!
