This Week at the Market

14th November 2020

Hi there

thumbnail_IMG_20200222_073905.jpg

We are pleased to have the Market as a finalist in the Otago Hall of Fame Services to Otago category.  BUT if you think the market has the best vendors in the whole of Otago be sure to give us a vote for Otago Person(s) of the Year in this link TODAY!  https://www.otagohalloffame.co.nz/otago-person-of-the-year

I am soooo excited to be back at work at the market this Saturday as I really miss shopping for all my staples when I am away. Fermented vegetables from Maries, eggs, Blue Mountain beef, Havoc pork, paeonies, microgreens from Brightside, Jersey Benne potatoes from Oamaru Organics and whatever other yummy fresh vegetables that are currently not ready in my own garden all feature on my shopping list.

Logan Park Jazz Band will entertain us again, always a crowd pleaser and I think the weather will behave as well!

I recently called into see the creator of Love and Cake. Emily Jory is a young woman on a mission to bring more love into the world by making joyous sweet creations that people will share and bond over. She has a considerable talent for making visually stunning sweet treats that are hard to resist.

Emily has a passion for both baking and the arts. She combined these passions through undertaking significant academic pursuits culminating in a Masters in Design – focusing on how food can be used as a medium for artistic expression.

Emily has worked with many of Dunedin’s finest chefs and bakers. Most recently she was Head Chef at the Kind Grocer where she became more and more familiar with vegan and allergy friendly cooking. In any one week up to half her orders may be vegan and or allergy friendly.

Emily grew up baking with her Mum and her Aunty who was a chef. She always wanted to be a chef but not just a chef hence her foray into her own business.

Emily's cakes and raw slices are very eye catching, talk about eye candy! She bakes Wednesday night and all-day Thursday before decorating on Friday. Currently she is working out of the certified kitchen in her apartment which has some limitations regarding space and access. Ideally, she would like a kitchen studio to work from and the way she is going we are sure that this will be part of her future. Check out Emily’s creations up on the platform.

See you Saturday.

Holiday Markets 2020/2021

images.jpg

This year we are making a few changes to our market schedule over the holiday period.

This is primarily because of how the statutory holidays fall this year and to avoid vendors having to pay staff to pick on Christmas Day and New Years Day. So markets will be happening on the following days and times.

Saturday 19th Dec , usual time, 8am - 12.30pm

Wednesday 23rd December, 6.30am - 11am (customers will be restricted access until 6.30am when all vendors will be in place)

Wednesday 30th December, 8am - 11am

Saturday 9th January 2021, usual time 8am - 12.30pm

NB: NO Saturday markets on 26th December 2020 or 2nd January 2021

Dunford Grove

Close to time for the irrigation on again   We often forget that there's as much tree below the ground as above so all the growth we encourage in new branches also applies to the roots.  No bad thing but some trees strangle the flow through the lateral pipes so here we're by-passing the crushed sections with new pipe.

Did you know?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil contains a number of active compounds that contribute to heart health. Observational studies consistently find that those who consume the most have a lower risk of heart disease.

Locavore Boxes to your Door!

Locavore Boxes Logo.jpg

If Saturday morning is already crowded with work, or sport and music for the kids, or just sleeping in and reading the newspaper over a leisurely breakfast, you can still support local growers and producers.

Locavore Boxes gather together locally grown herbs, vegetables and fruit, locally produced eggs, honey and dairy produce, as well as other treats, and they deliver them to your door in a truly sustainable wooden or woven box that you simply return to Locavore Boxes next time they call.

Locavore Boxes work with Farmers Market stalwarts Oamaru Organics, Janefield Hydroponics, Holy Cow, Wairuna Organics, Caithness Farm, Kapowai Kombucha as well as other local growers Mihiwaka Organics, BL beekeeping and others.

Check out their website for more information: www.locavoreboxes.co.nz
