Hi there
Just what we all didn't need again! But Saturday, we will be open as usual at the Market, but with safe restrictions in place. Hope you are all hanging in there & that things at Level 2 down here (& for our friends up the line at Level 3) are managed quickly, so we can enjoy that almost normal bubble we luckily found ourselves in these last couple of months.
Remember to bring your (charged) mobile phones! We'll have all the QR Covid codes at all entrances (& manual sheets) for everyone to take responsibility coming into enjoy the market. 2mt social distancing will be monitored & I'm sure everyone will be respecting that. See further details below. But we will have loads of ESSENTIAL local fresh fruit, vegies, produce, milk, eggs, meat, bread, etc & our Market vendors rely on you to keep going.
We are on the lookout for another Market Chef / Fab Home Cook to add to our team here at the Market as sadly Jamalia will be leaving us soon for a more full time job. It is a paid gig, requiring recipe creation, research the week before at the market to see what is in season, etc and a full morning commitment from 6am on a Saturday till around 12:30pm demonstrating their market dishes. Personality plus is a must! And erring on the healthy side. Please email to Kate at gm@otagofarmersmarket.org.nz for more details if this interests you.
We are expecting the swedes back for sale at the market this weekend courtesy of the Rotary Club, Taieri branch.
Meanwhile Dine Dunedin is swinging into its second week, hopefully you can get out & enjoy one or two of the great options we have here in Otepoti, Dunedin. I was lucky enough to get along to Harbourside Grill on Friday night as part of Dine Dunedin, and I know, I might be biased, BUT, hands down it was the best Kiwi Burger ever!! ALL made with ingredients from the Otago Farmers Market, check it out! There's also a mighty fine Market Fish Burger as well.
But back to the Market, we aim to provide a safe environment for everyone to shop, with loads of fresh air & sunshine! And we'll have buskers to sweet sooth the soul...
Please take care everyone (& stay home if sick) & we'll see you on Saturday!
Kind regards
Michele
Assistant Manager

Agreeable Nature
|
Our favourite Agreeable Nature Free Range Eggs are super short of their egg packaging, cutting it fine before the latest Govt announcements. Their new packaging is off shore waiting for space to be shipped here & they expect further delays following the latest covid events.
Agreeable Nature recycle their packaging and need as much packaging returned to them as possible at this time! If you have clean egg packaging at home if you could please return them this weekend thanks!

Doubt Not Compost
|
Issac from Doubt Not Compost here in Dunedin manages our market recycling waste & will be at the market on the weekend selling a few cuttings grown in the potting blend they make from local hospo waste. Have a chat to him if you need ideas on your own composting system at home. The hard work hard they do for the market & for Dunedin is inspiring!

Community Stall
|
The Wildlife Hospital Student's Association is a student led group whose goal is to raise money and spread awareness for the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital. This Saturday we will be at the Farmer's Market for our annual street appeal to support the Hospital.
The Wildlife Hospital is a veterinary facility specialising solely in the treatment of native New Zealand wildlife. They are a not-for-profit charity who rely heavily on the generosity and kindness of their donors. Prior to its establishment in 2018, patients had to travel long distances to receive treatment. Now they can be treated quickly and with high rates of success, which has been a tremendous benefit to our precious native species.

Locovore Boxes to your Door!
|
If you can't make it to the Otago Farmers Market on a Saturday morning for whatever reason & you are still keen to support local growers and makers, and here’s a way you can do that:
Locavore Boxes include produce from a number of Farmers Market growers and producers in their boxes: veg from Oamaru Organics, Janefield Hydroponics, Caithness Farm, Wairuna Organics, bread from Gilbert’s, dairy produce from Holy Cow, Kombucha from Kapowai, eggs from Agreeable Nature, fruit and veg from Rosedale Orchard. They also source from other local producers not found at the market: BL Beekeeping (based on the Taieri), Roastery Door coffee from South Dunedin, Vern Paddock Produce from Mihiwaka. That means you can still support your local growers, buying locally grown /produced food - with the added bonus of having it delivered to your door! Check their website - www.locavoreboxes.co.nz
