Eat Healthily to help stay on top of Life's Busy-ness - fresh, seasonal produce from the market!

17th January 2019

Hi there

peaches 2019.jpg

I have been away from the market the last couple of weekends and am very much looking forward to working on Saturday (how many people get to say that!). I just can’t wait to stock up on life’s essentials such as peanut butter, blueberries, eggs, hummus, kale and other delighted vegetables plus stone fruit! I am loving apricots, particularly this year. I get just a tiny bit smug knowing that we have the best apricots in the country right here at the market. It is so easy to eat in a healthy manner if you shop regularly at the market.

Many of you will be thinking about the start of the school year. It is a busy time for families with young children as holidays end and the reality of another hectic year looms. Healthy snacks and meals make such a difference to staying on top of things. Why not bring the whole family down to the market and get the kids to choose their favourite yummy, ripe and juicy healthy snack to get things started on the right track.

This week will see a very full market with virtually every single vendor back from holidays. It is the last week for The Big Fat Cherry Co so if you’re needing some of their big fat cherries then don’t delay!

Some of you may be interested in helping us out on an occasional Saturday morning. From 10am – noon we require a volunteer to staff the market hub and deal with customer inquiries and sell merchandise. This is a pleasant role that mostly the Trustees fill but from time to time we have a few gaps. If you are interested and would like to know more then email me here.

See you Saturday

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

We're excited to have Chef Kate Woodhouse back in our market kitchen again this Saturday.  She really has created some delightful recipes for you to enjoy this week! Why don't you take a crack at making one of the recipes yourself? Then stop by on Saturday morning and tell Kate how splendidly it turned out!

It’s a new year, and the Farmers Market needs your help! We are searching for some energetic, friendly, market-loving individuals who are passionate about waste education to volunteer for a two hour shift on some Saturdays. If you’re looking for some volunteer hours and are high school age and above, why not give it a try? If you or someone you know might be interested, please send an email to info@otagofarmersmarket.org.nz

We can’t wait to meet you!

Happy New Year to our faithful. What a fantastic year 2018 was; bumper harvest, awards and gold medals, record Farmers Market sales and an ever increasing number of chefs and restaurants featuring our oils! Thank you one and all, onward and upward in 2019.
While we've been enjoying family and friends the olives just go about their business, flowering in the second week of December, one month down and looking great.
We'll be back at the Market this Saturday with all our Oils, Soaps, Olives and Hazel nuts- see you on the platform.

Did you know?
The flags of seven nations, four U.S. states, and the United Nations themselves all feature an olive branch.
