This Week at the Farmers Market

18th September 2021

Hi there

L2 Market Sept 2021 with masks.jpeg

Kia ora,

Thank you so much to our loyal customers who were made it along last weekend, was lovely to see you back & thanks for all your wonderful feedback and for playing good sports with the rules.  The vendors, staff & volunteers were all happy to be there as well, but in somewhat different conditions.  The queue was only around a 5 minute wait for most, as everyone respected the 10-15min Shop & Go which made it easy for everyone to have a chance.  The same protocols are in place this week, mask wearing (unless you have an exemption or for children), scanning in, keeping the 2mt distancing, 15 min maximum shop & 100 limit in the Market.  We recommend one member per family or flat to shop at the MarketReady to Eats will be there, but we recommend you taking food to eat outside the Market please.  We also have our Click & Collect Table again if you have pre-ordered & paid with your regular vendors – (if you don’t want to queue & only have one or two things to collect).  You will find the table easily at the South Gate by the Railway Building (you will be expected to wear a mask there & scan as well).

Everyone else; please use the MAIN MIDDLE GATE on Anzac Ave & depart from there as well (all other gates are blocked off).  If you are parking in the north carpark, please still walk around to the main front gate.

There was a riot of colour last weekend to cheer us up – those yellow + pink hyacinths sitting side by side in the top photo at Terracotta Plants are very cheery indeed & smell divine!  It was exciting to see potential goodies for my garden as we suddenly now have Youth Grow + Waikouaiti Gardens back + Matheson & Roberts and Terracotta Plants are there every week for the season, so there are plenty of vegetable plants & interesting plant varieties to choose from.  Rosedale Orchard have finished for the season & will be back later in November.

And a shout out to all the volunteers who helped last weekend, we had a great contingent of our Market board, my sister & Anika from Ronia & Pippi, it was all hands-on-deck to keep the smooth running of the Market.  And also; a big fat thank you to our vendors who could or did make it last weekend, I know for many of you it wasn’t at all financially viable to be there given the restrictions, but you did it out of a sense of solidarity to the Market & for that the board & I thank you for your support, without you we don’t have a Market!  Hopefully we will see more vendors back soon who aren't already back for various reasons.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend!  Bring your cash, bags, keep cups, containers, mask, charged phone for scanning, patience and a smize!

Take care all & keep doing the good mahi.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!

To celebrate being back we would like to offer you a one-time market-only special of 20% off all our pickles and our curry paste!

Which will you choose? Our 'fiery redhead' Carrot pickle? Perhaps our ’spicy marmalade’ Orange & Lemon’ pickle?

Maybe our most popular flavour ‘Zuke Nuke’, or my personal favourite, Tomato pickle?

The choice is yours.  See you then.

Dunford Grove

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever”.  John Keats.

Well, a row of newly pruned Hazel Nut trees is certainly beautiful but not forever, they keep growing!  Some might question the wisdom of every year taming a tree that just wants to be a thicket?

Pruning is the biggest job on the property, fortunately we’re past halfway.

Did you know?

Most nuts have a high oil content so may easily go rancid.  Same rules to keep them perfect as with extra Virgin Olive Oil- away from heat and light.  But, with Hazel Nuts, the best way to keep them is in the freezer.
