This Week at the Farmers Market

19th December 2020

Hi there

Kate Xmas 2019.jpeg

Woohoo Christmas is almost upon us. This is to be my final Christmas at the market. I have resigned after 7.5 years and will finish up at the end of January 2021. I have loved my job but feel that now is the time to explore other horizons. Michele, my 2IC will take over the  head role when I leave.

The market promises to have everything your heart desires for Christmas dinner and last minute gift ideas for the foodies in your life and remember there is a special Christmas market on Wednesday 23rd December, starting at 6.30am and finishing at 11am.

Market vouchers are a popular gift as are the 3 pack beeswax wraps and our 100% linen tea towels. These are available from the site office. Vendors have created gift packs of olive oils, jams and relishes, Christmas mince pies, local beer and wines… the list goes on.

Fresh produce will be abundant. Raspberries, strawberries, tay berries, export quality cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, broad beans, zucchinis, new season garlic, new potatoes, salad greens and herbs including basil, snow peas, spring carrots and oodles more.

Markets continue right throughout the holiday season. Check out below for the holiday schedule. Produce will be abundant so be sure to come on down and stock up on the good things that our bountiful province provides at this time of year.

Finally from all of us here at the market we wish you all the best for the holiday season and good times with family and friends.

See you Saturday.

Kate

Holiday Markets 2020/2021

images.jpg

This year we are making a few changes to our market schedule over the holiday period.

This is primarily because of how the statutory holidays fall this year and to avoid vendors having to pay staff to pick on Christmas Day and New Years Day. So markets will be happening on the following days and times.

Saturday 19th Dec , usual time, 8am - 12.30pm

Wednesday 23rd December, 6.30am - 11am (customers will be restricted access until 6.30am when all vendors will be in place)

Wednesday 30th December, 8am - 11am

Saturday 9th January 2021, usual time 8am - 12.30pm

NB: NO Saturday markets on 26th December 2020 or 2nd January 2021

Markets as per every Saturday after this.

NZ Nuts This Weekend

NZ Nuts.jpg

NZ Nuts wishes all at the Otago Farmers Market a Very Merry Christmas, best wishes for 2021 and safe travel if on the road during the festive season.   A BIG THANKYOU to customers for SUPPORTING LOCAL – you have made a difference!

This week I found one 5kg bag of Franquette inshell nuts as I cleared the shed – you might need to be up early for this one!  We will have Vina, Hartely and Tehama inshell nuts at the market along with halves and pieces for those Christmas stockings or baking.

This is my last market for this year (I am staying off the roads whilst they are so busy) but look forward to joining you again on the 9th of January.

Waewae Permaculture Market Specials

20201216_120031.jpg

This week we have Kohlrabi! We love how they look and as the base and the tops are edible, they are good value food. Not familiar? It has the texture and crunch of a radish and the taste of a mild turnip, cauliflower or broccoli stem, making it a tasty addition to summer salads and stir-fries. These ones are tender and perfect for eating raw.

Waewae Permaculture - Regenerative & Diverse farming, local & Agri-chemical free. Organically grown (non-certified-talk to us!) Home compostable packaging.
