Three weeks into plastic free July and how have you changed?

19th July 2018

Hi there

What a gorgeous week of weather we’ve had, my spring garden is coming alive with new shoots piercing out through the soil to the light. I imagine that pretty soon more of our plant vendors will return to the market and that great cycle of life starts up all over again. I never fail to find it uplifting.

The road works have started with a vengeance in Anzac Avenue. Two way traffic access returns for the weekends but do please be careful as there will be uneven surfaces around as you walk to the market from your car. The car parks along Anzac Avenue on the market side are no longer there but we still have plenty of parking in and around the market.

This week we are delighted to welcome Spelt Bakery to the market. They will be selling a wide range of breads, biscuits, muesli and savoury tarts. You will find them where Indigo were in the lower market.

We are again on the hunt for a market chef. We have the wonderful Kate but we need a second chef as well. This position suits someone who is passionate about creating nutritious, tasty food from  local produce. An inspired home cook would fit the bill as well as trained chefs. If this sounds like you or someone you know then please contact Kate here or pop down to the market on Saturday for a chat in person.

Keep up the great work bringing your own bags, cups, containers and cutlery to the market. More and more you will notice vendors and the market in general offering alternatives to single use cups and bags. We are half way through Plastic Free July which launched the Trust’s initiative to eradicate single use plastic from the market. We all need to do out bit with this to ensure success. We market supporters are a community of reduction and I for one am enormously proud of what we achieve collectively.

See you Saturday

Ever tried a slosh of our Extra Virgin Olive Oil on your pop corn?  It's just amazing!  And for something even more exciting- try our Chilli infused olive oil too.

Did you know?

Our oil is away for testing at the moment where not only chemical analysis is performed but there is also a sensory evaluation.  In the sensory evaluation, trained sommeliers are looking for positive descriptors like; fruity, green, citrus, spicy, fragrant, tropical, soft, over-ripe, bitter and pungent, all these are determined by the quality of fruit produced on the tree.
