This Week at the Farmers Market

19th June 2021

Hi there

Afife Pix Updated.jpeg (1)

It was an icy Market last weekend, so thank you to all those intrepid customers who made it along, we have a dedicated community!

Afife from Lebanese Cuisine has decided to retire & won’t be returning.  She would very much like to thank her customers and says there have been so many kind, supportive people over the years.  Afife has been a part of the Market for nearly 15 years.  I know she will be missed by many & we thank her for all the years she has been part of it.  She has given so much back to her community over that time.  Thank you Afife.

If anyone has spare mugs to donate for the cup library, feel free to drop them off to the Market caravan on Saturday, just needing a bit of a top up.  Even better, remember to bring your own mug, keep cup, or vessel with you for your coffees, hot chocolates & fresh juices, to save on all the single use cups that can't easily be broken down or composted & are clogging up our landfills.  Having your own cup means no expensive & unsustainable double-cupping!

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!

See you Saturday….

Ngā mihi

The freshest smoked fish pate is now available up on the platform.  Made with the finest, freshest fish from Harbour Fish right here in Dunners.  We smoke it ourselves using our own wood chips...adding herbs from our garden.

If you return your jar, you get a discount off your next one...yep just like we do with our fresh mayo and aioli, the chicken liver pate...oh and our eco rainwater beer...

Cheers Toby & Debs

Dunford Grove

Greek chickpea sou.JPG

All pretty quiet here, just trying to stay dry.  Plenty of olive wood from pruning going through the fire and nothing like soup to warm the insides!

Did you know?

Anyone can determine whether olive oil is fresh.  Warm it in a pan or pour it over a bowl of soup: Fresh oil smells like olives. There may be notes of asparagus or artichoke, echoes of fresh cut grass but the fruitiness should be front and centre!

Cheers Sandy

Marie's Plant Based Food Specials:

maries.jpg (11)

I have new seasonal fermented vegetables this week. Some people ask me, how do we eat the fermented vegetables, and what do we do with them? Well, you can include them in sandwich, pita, taco, or burgers. Or just have some on the side of your plate and mix with the food you are eating, as a condiment. I love to have a piece of toast or cracker, with some (vegan) cheese and a bit on top. As these products are alive, keeping them in the fridge is a way to stabilise them, be aware the jar is never sealed. If it is, then it means the product you are buying have been through a cooking process which would have killed all the good bacteria that is so good for your guts! All my fermented vegetable and my jams are bottled with recycled jars. Thank you so much for bringing them back, it is so helpful. See you at our stall for a sample, a burger, fresh tempeh, a pancake sandwich, gourmet low sugar jam or fermented vegetables.  See you there!  Marie
