This Week at the Market

19th September 2019

Hi there

Butlers Fruit Farm Donald Butler.jpg

We are gearing up for a big weekend with Fleetwood Mac fans flocking to the city. The sun is forecast to shine, we have a great lot of talented buskers booked and the market will be humming. Be sure to bring your out-of-town visitors down so they can see what a great farmers market we have!

Some of you may have noticed that Donald was back from Butlers Berry Farm last Saturday and he vows to return this week too. He will have frozen berries, jams and heaps of spring flowers. Be sure to pop by and say hello. We have missed him and his cheery banter and look forward to strawberry and raspberry harvests from him as well in the not too distant future.

The Trust recently had a Trustee step down and is now looking for expressions of interest from interested folk, passionate about the market, who feel that they would have something to offer to the governance of the market. The Trust meets on a monthly basis and is responsible for assessing new applications to trade at the market and the strategic direction of the market. Please send expressions of interest to Sharyn Crawford, Chair of the Trust at aromaticdispensary@xtra.co.nz If you would like to come on board as an Advisor to the Trust this would enable you to dip your toe in and assess whether the Trustee role is something you may be interested in going forward. Advisors come from a broad range of backgrounds and contribute to the discussion around the monthly meeting table but do not have voting rights. Again should you be interested contact, Sharyn for a confidential discussion.

See you Saturday

Best Regards

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

Chef Jamalia in the market kitchen will be celebrating an international smorgasbord of recipes this weekend with wonderful fresh ingredients from the Otago region.  Try some gumbo with andouille sausage from Havoc Pork Farm or a middle eastern flavour in your pizza with Syrian style za'atar from Abdal's Catering drizzled with delectable curd cheese from Evansdale Cheese.  Be sure to come by, say hi & try some whole baked organic broccoflower or the Cardrona Merino glazed brisket with baked cabbage from Ettrick Gardens.  You will find the key products around the market for sale from the market vendors.

~Farmers Market Special: Raspberry* & Cherry Blossom Kombucha~

Spring has sprung and flowers are blooming all over our city. There’s nothing like the sight of cherry blossoms to make me feel happy… a signal of warmer days just around the corner, and a celebration of having survived another winter.  It won’t be long before the market will be full of new season’s produce. In the meantime, I’ve used beautifully free-flow frozen raspberries from Ettrick Gardens for this recipe - sweet treasures found at the market even in the darkest of winter months. I’ve combined them with cherry blossoms for a hint of spring on an oolong kombucha base. Recipe on our Facebook or Instagram.

We've upgraded our kegerator and can now offer three flavours on tap at once. This week we'll have Raspberry & Cherry Blossom, Reishi Chai, and Rhodiola Rose.
