This Week at the Market

1st August 2019

Hi there

Michele Driscoll Promo Shot June 2019.jpeg

Some of you may have noticed that we have a new staff member at the market. Michele Driscoll has come on board as Assistant Manager and we are super pleased and very fortunate to have her. Michele comes from a long term background in television and film production as well as advertising. With a hearty dose of food related productions to her credit and a passion for all things food related she brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the market team. Keep an eye out for her at the market and be sure to say hello.

Terracotta Plants are back this week with spring bulbs in flower. We love seeing the colour and the bright little “faces” of daffs, crocus, iris and others heralding spring.

Jason Ross from Habitate will be selling his heirloom fruit trees this week. See more on this further down the page. Now is the perfect time to plant trees, especially with the recent rain moistening the soil.

The enthusiastic pupils of Kaikorai Valley High School are kicking off a new initiative for us this week. They will have glass jars with twine attached so you don’t burn your hands to take, keep and re-use as an alternative to single use cups. These are free. However they will be selling their Egnite fire starters made from recycled egg cartons, untreated wood shavings from the school workshop, and raw beeswax from a local supplier.  We are delighted to be able to support positive actions from our young people that contribute to improving the environment.

Stay warm

See you Saturday

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

Finally winter at your place right about now, so we have Nickee from the wonderful Port Larder stall joining us on Saturday in the market kitchen to cook up warming, hearty family meals.  It will be business as usual if you are wanting her wonderful tapenade & other goodies, as her children will still be in usual spot up on the platform.  Nickee has some great tasting recipes for you to try if you swing by the caravan from 8am....

Crooked Spaghetti

Tim Crooked Spag Profile Shot Web.jpeg

Welcome to winter, as a celebration of its late appearance the Crooked Spaghetti Co has joined up with Hammer Head Foods and created smoky roast garlic pasta, perfect for mid-winter comfort! We will also have hot and ready to eat, the now famous mac and three cheese (with potato chips – if that’s your thing!) and hot minestrone soup with ricotta ravioli.

Wrap warm and see you Saturday, until then keep it crooked!
