This Week at the Farmers Market

1st October 2022

Hi there

2022 Return Co of Flowers.jpeg

Spring is definitely making itself heard & seen, the birds in the morning know it, and now that daylight saving has started it all feels more enticing to be out amongst it.  A short week just flies by & it’s Market Day all over again! It was great to see lots of ‘from out of town’ faces last weekend with many of our regulars escaping to Central no doubt - we will be sure to have plenty for you to restock the pantry this weekend. The pacific rose apples at Willowbrook are good eating at the moment.  I tried a cold brew nut mylk coffee with cardamon last weekend, it’s very good, hopefully Ronia & Pippi’s Anika continues with it, she’s onto a winner there I predict!  And have you tried Tartan Sari’s rechard masala curry paste yet?  It’s Danielle’s latest creation in the ever-growing range of old family recipes made with, where possible local ingredients, I’m enjoying adding it to my cooking for a big flavour hit – it goes with most things including fish, lamb, vegies.

Kakanui Produce have been delayed & it could be a few more weeks before their return now, once they know I will let you know in the newsletter.

For those of you who maybe isolating or homebound we have a few vendors that can deliver to your door during the weekBrightside Microgreens, Gilberts Fine Foods, Ettrick Gardens, Waewae, Ronia & Pippi, Agreeable Nature Eggs, Blue Mountain Butchery, Tartan Sari, Dunford Grove, Evansdale Cheese, Oamaru Organics, Port Larder, Harbour Fish, Havoc Pork, Blueskin Bay Honey, Wild Dispensary, Judge Rock Wines, Hazelnut Estate, Matheson & Roberts, Bennies Honey, Whitestone Cheese, NZ Nuts, Breads & More, Dunedin Craft Distillery, Princes St Butchery & others.  You can find their details in our ORDER NOW button on our website www.otagofarmersmarket.org.nz

Bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only. Remember your keep cup / mug (if you forget, check with your beverage vendor if they have spares to borrow to save on single use throw out cups – which are just not cool!), I will keep supplying them with cups where needed, it’s up to us all to make use of this.  And remember your containers, produce bags.

Remember, that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates who have our tick of approval.  Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform & you will get a quality product.

Please respect everyone’s space & feel free to wear your mask.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!  See you there.

Ngā mihi

This Week in the kitchen

When looking through the archives this week I was looking for something that would make the most of this seasons yams before summer rolls around. This is the perfect side dish for dinner or a great work lunch when some protein is added! See you all at the market this weekend.

Remember by drinking our spirits you are helping the environment, every 250mil bottle saves a loaf of bread from going to landfill.
