Hi there
Five sleeps and the big guy makes his appearance. I’m wishing for lots of sunshine and heat for our produce vendors who have had a stink season so far! It has been a very slow start for them and many crops are sulking with very wet feet.
All that aside we have a fabulous Christmas market for you! It will be a ripper with tons of all the good stuff. The Big Fat Cherry Co will be there as will Frog Rock with wonderful cherries. Stone fruit of other varieties will be plentiful and berries of all sorts will beckon. It always pays to be a little earlier than usual and for you early birds we will be keeping you out until 6.30am. This is purely for health and safety reasons so the vendors can drive in and get set up without risking running over any eager beavers!
New potatoes, seasonal veg, Holy Cow cream, meats of all sorts, chocolates, wine, beer, last minute gifts, cheese, baked goods all will be plentiful. It is the season to be jolly and show kindness to all folks so please be patient and enjoy all the great music we will have on offer and the market ambience.
Blue Mountain Butchery, our new meat vendor, sells farm to plate cuts of beef and lamb as well as a stupendous array of small goods. The news is out and they had quite the queue there last week. Just sayin’ if you haven’t tried it yet, don’t be shy, go say hi.
There is no market kitchen for the next three weeks. We give the chefs a wee break to spend time with their families. The market however continues every Saturday throughout the holiday season. It is a great place to bring friends and family visiting from elsewhere to show off the best of the region and to enjoy Central Otago stone fruit.
Please support the crew from Doubt Not Compost (see story below). They take all the compostable waste from the market every week for which we are extremely grateful. Buy a plant from them and it could be growing in compost made from food packaging that you discarded at the market a month or two ago! How cool is that!
Take care out there peeps and have a very enjoyable holiday season from us all here at the market.
See you Saturday
Kate
