Hi there
Another weekend swings around, only this time its Otago Anniversary Weekend! A good chance for you to get out and about in our great city and region but also to fill the pantry & belly at the Market. This weekend also marks the start of National Farmers Market Week – the nationwide theme this year is ‘Food Resilience in Times of Crisis’. There has never been a better year to shop/support/love local especially at the Otago Farmers Market where you buy directly from the growers, makers, bakers, farmers, etc…. meaning fresher and often best value over other alternatives. Our local food system always needs local support to build resilient communities and we thank our loyal Market customers and welcome visitors and first-timers. Check out our 'Care Package’ promotion on our Facebook & Instagram pages coming up this week to celebrate the week & to thank someone deserving, it’s packed with all your nutritious, delicious weekly essentials from a whole lot of our generous vendors at the Market.
Ettrick Gardens are desperately needing berry fruit pickers – find John at the Ettrick Gardens stall at the Market front gate if you are keen.
Waitaki Orchard up on the platform is nearing the end of their picking season so get in quickly this week for stonefruit & I have to say wonderful rustic peach galettes – they are really good!
So remember to bring CASH, your vege bags, your keep cup & containers & your good selves.... there will be plenty of music with the Hooray Henry's, Valley Blue Grass & others...
See you at the Market!
Ngā mihi

We made the most of last weekend bouncing around Foveaux Strait, an excellent few days away!
I'll be up on the platform this Saturday, see you there. Remember, until our new season's oil is ready, we'll only be at the market on the first and third weekends of the month.
Did you know?
There is a common myth that cooking with Extra Virgin Olive Oil can ruin cookware such as Teflon coated pans. This belief is specifically supported by some cookware manufacturers specifications, stating that Teflon coated pans could have their coating damaged by Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The Modern Olives Laboratory, an Australian specialist oil laboratory, conducted research to assess the suitability of various cooking oils, including EVOO, for use on Teflon coated pans.
And the conclusion? According to the study results, cooking with EVOO does not ruin non-stick Teflon coated pans at any different rate than other cooking oils.

Marie’s Specials this Week:
|
Another beautiful Autumn market coming up!
Our organic fresh tempeh this week is: Quinoa, adzuki bean & black sesame.
What is Marie’s Tempeh? Most of the time, when you buy Tempeh, it is pasteurised or “fresh – frozen”, it’s origin from Indonesia and made of soybean. My tempeh is freshly made every week from different mix of beans, cereal, and seeds, it has a delicate flavour, and the texture can be different depending on the mix. It needs to be kept in the fridge and will be fresh for the for the next 7 days, you can also freeze it for up to 9 months. Tempeh is full of protein, vitamins, minerals, and lots of dietary fibre and much more! Because the fermentation is around 35 to 40 hours, it is an easy digestible food. There is so many options on how to use it: steamed, deep fried, pan fried, baked… in salad, kebabs, soups, stews, Bolognese, and burgers. There are some samples for you to try, please come and be curious, this is a very beautiful food!
FERMENTED VEGETABLES
Organic Sauerkraut (onion & garlic or cabbage)
Kimchi - mild, medium, or hot is available (cabbage, onion, ginger, garlic & red pepper & chilli for the hot)
Cabbage, #daikon, *yams, ginger, red Korean pepper, Galangal – Kimchi style (medium)
*Cabbage, carrots, celeriac, broco-flower, lemongrass, fennel & mustard seed
* organic # spray free
ORGANIC FRESH TEMPEH 1 packet (225gm) for $8 or 2 packets for $15 Quinoa, adzuki bean & black sesame. Freshly made every week from different beans, cereals, and seeds. I use this same organic fresh tempeh in my burgers.
LOW SUGAR JAM Plum, nectarine, apricot, strawberry, gooseberry, cherry, blackcurrant, rhubarb, white peach & vanilla, pear & vanilla.
PANCAKES SANDWICH SPECIAL $7.50 a combination of low sugar nectarine jam, vegan custard (made of fresh almond milk, cashew nut, coconut cream and chia seed) and roasted hazelnut (Hazelnut Estate from our market) .
TEMPEH BURGER $9 choose between crunchy peanut sauce, teriyaki or mild chilli tomato sauce and add some of my popular kimchi, sauerkraut, or purple pickled vegetables. They all have a fresh organic tempeh patty, green salad, sprouts, and mayonnaise.
