This Week at the Farmers Market

20th November 2021

Hi there

chips 2.jpg

Hope your week is going as well as can be.

We welcome new vendors Jenny & Sue from Dunedin Craft Distillery finally this weekend.  They were approved for the Market pre-August with their Dunedin made botanical spirits sustainably made from surplus bread – find them up on the platform by Run Rabbit Pasta (whose pappardelle pasta of the week is always great – a little thrown through Market vegies is so delicious!).

Have you tried the Catlins Kitchen pea & broad bean dip?  So simple & delicious, I’ve enjoyed it on toast this week (on Gilbert’s golden rye of course), grab a homemade mayo while you are there, or get Deb to fill your container with crispy vegetable crisps (see photo), trust me they are lovely to nibble on a Saturday evening with a crisp glass of something from Urbn Vino or if craft beer is your thing I hear great things about Toby’s Catlins True Brew.  We may not have samples right now but I’m happy to recommend what I have enjoyed lately.  The limoncello at No 8 Distillery is amazing & a great gift idea in their gorgeous new bottles. Di up at The Port Larder does a great homemade olive tapenade or various garden pesto’s & Sandy next door from Dunford Grove has very good fresh olive oil & is always up for a chat!  And any of Ronia & Pippi’s nut mylks are incredibly creamy & delicious from the lovely mother & daughter team of Petra & Anika. You won’t regret purchasing any of the above!

Many of you have been asking on when the asparagus man is coming back (your seasonal radars are well switched on!).  Palmerston Asparagus farm has sold, it sounds like we won’t be seeing produce again from there, our gain though is decent nice guy Rod (Asparagus Man) now has more time to volunteer at the Market as one of our board of trustees & for that we are thankful!

Remember too that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates, who have our tick of approval.  Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform.  And only the best & biggest peonies can be found inside the Market!

The same protocols are in place this week, mask wearing (unless you have an exemption or for children), scanning in & please keep the 2mt distancing & stay away if you are feeling unwell please.

We ask if you could please take coffee & food off site to eat from our many ready to eat vendors that way we can keep it swiftly happening for everyone into the Market to shop & leave.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend!  Bring your cash, bags, keep cup or mug, containers, mask & charged phone for scanning.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!  There will be plenty of live music to soothe the soul.  Catch you there.

Ngā mihi

Love this time of year! Some things just go together- asparagus, parmesan, and our Lemon Olive Oil. See me on the platform Saturday for some other suggestions for our Lemon Oil.

Did you know?

Both Lemon Juice and Olive Oil have detoxifying properties that purify the body. The combination of these two ingredients promotes and facilitates the elimination of toxins, enhances the functioning of the liver and gallbladder, and creates a barrier that protects against cell damage caused by free radicals.

La Crepe Market Specials

Time is flying fast, let's not forget to have some fun. Professional development is paramount to keep learning, reflecting in order to maintain best practice, and innovate. This time we have co-created a new concept: Coviset, we injected Grand Marnier (orange liqueur) into sweet crepes (5mls). We have tested it in Tauranga with amazing feedback. The name is a reminder of the famous crepe suzette. In a time like this, it is paramount to have fun, and there are only two places in the world where you can have it, both in New Zealand!
