This Week at the Market

21st November 2019

Hi there

Alex and Zoe close up.jpg

It was fun to visit Alex and Zoe from Chinese Crepes recently. Bing is a very popular Chinese street food and the people of Dunedin are now cottoning on as to why!

Alex and Zoe, the owners of Bing, met in New Zealand after they had both travelled here from China on working holidays.

In 2017 they decided to leave the north island and head south where they fell in love with beautiful Dunedin.

They realised that there was nothing like Bing here so set about setting up their business in a custom built, mobile food truck. Their very first day they sold out!

Bing is a savoury crepe made from a mixture of flours including mung bean which they make from scratch. Inside is a crunchy layer, egg and an assortment of vegetables and meats should you desire that. Different sauces complete the dish. It is filling, healthy and very, very more-ish!

Alex and Zoe prepare everything from scratch in their A grade kitchen and are very pleased now that what is a traditional Chinese snack has now made a mark on the Dunedin food scene. They have many regular customers at the market but if you haven’t tried a Bing then go and check them out up at the south end of the platform.

See you Saturday

BYO

BYO Kit winner

We are so pleased to see the marked improvements in customers shopping habits at the market. So many more of you are bringing your own cup, jars, bags and containers to use as you shop.

Over the summer we are really going to be pushing this even further. Put yourself together a kit for shopping that has re-usable containers for everything you want to buy.

You will find that you get a better deal from most vendors if you provide your own container and you can help us with our slow but steady move towards a zero waste market.

We will be looking out for shoppers who are well kitted up to photograph and share with y'all. For those times you forget we have you covered with our cup and bag library and a great assortment of bags and wraps to buy.

Community Stall

Barnados.jpg

Otago Barnardos team will be at the local Farmer’s Market this weekend to give out Free seedlings to the community as part of recruiting new Foster Carers in Dunedin. We have been fortunate to be supported by City Forest who have sponsored the seedlings to give away this weekend. We are looking for amazing new foster parents to help us transform the lives of young people in Dunedin. Barnardos is an experienced foster care provider with a proven record for supporting foster parents and achieving positive outcomes for young people.

Barnardos Foster Care provides:

  • Ongoing training and resources for foster parents
  • A high level of support – practical, emotional and financial
  • The opportunity to be an integral part of a specialist team who work to
improve the lives of young people.

Barnardos is New Zealand's leading children's charity, doing more for Kiwi kids. For more than 60 years, we have been helping children, families and whānau in need. Today, we continue to support, protect and educate thousands of New Zealand children. Every day, our professional and dedicated staff help build communities where all children are nurtured and supported so they can reach their full potential. This is no small task. The challenge we face is that many children don't get the opportunities they deserve. We are dedicated to achieving our vision of an Aotearoa New Zealand where every child shines bright. They deserve nothing less.

If anyone is interested in becoming a Foster Carer in our region please contact Monique on 0274962815 or otagofostercare@barnardos.org.nz
