One Week Till Party Time!

Summer is technically coming to an end and the weather has been letting us know that the last week. But I have faith that the NZ rule of "March is basically a part of Summer" holds true as I'm not quite ready to give it up! Not to mention I feel like I'm already running behind on my preserve making and I haven't even gotten to the crab apples yet.  

In the mean time though I hope everyone is getting excited for our birthday party planned for the 3rd of March, I know the vendors are, if you want to join in the fun why not share a story from your time at the market over the years or dress up on party day I promise you won't be alone! 

This Saturday will be the first week at the market for local Dunedin company Botanical Kitchen. Inspired by bringing herbal medicine and plant based foods to the every day kitchen, various seasonal tonics, elixirs, teas and plant based staples will be on offer each week. Well, what a difference some rain makes!  Grass from brown to green in half a week.  Not so keen on the snow well down Mt Pisa behind us!

This week we not only have Heritage apples but the first of our lovely pears. Williams Bon Chretien is a sweet musky eating and processing pear.

Apples this week are; Akane a Japanese dessert apple, and Hetlina, rosy and high in health protecting bioflavonoids. Early birds may also pick up the very last Peasgood Nonsuch cooking apples.

This week has been cold (and wet!) in Central Otago.  The Black Krim Tomato have sulked with snow on the Pisa range and only 1.5kg of ripe tomatoes I simply don't have sufficient to justify a trip to Dunedin.  Apologies to all customers.

We've had so many requests for Green Tea Kombucha with Tart Apple, Cinnamon & Cardamom that we have it again for you this week. This time we are using Peasgood Nonsuch Apples from Otago Organics.

Our other summer flavours are  Elderflower, and Blueberry & Cinnamon.
