This Week at the Farmers Market

22nd January 2022

Hi there

CB4D667C-FE39-4853-B6C5-816F8CD9DA1D.jpeg

Good to see a decent amount of rain in the region over the last few days, I know my lawns here at the beach had suddenly become very crunchy over the last fortnight, hopefully that means our local farms & orchards felt a bit of it too in what has been a warmer summer so far.  My thoughts have been with Tonga this week & the devastating destruction from the volcano, much love to the Tongan community both here & in Tonga & people of the Pacific, we have yet to see the ongoing repercussions or the true picture.

Back here in Otago, we are so lucky to have plenty of stone fruit (including Moorpark Apricots), berries, plants & vegies at the Market again this weekend.  Just a reminder to only handle produce you are going to buy please (for what should be obvious reasons).  There are also lots of brunch & lunch options to takeaway.  Last weekend I took away the cheesey beef bing crepe at Chinese Crepes (the red caravan at the south gate) made by Alex.  It was exceptionally tasty – crunchy layers alternating with beef, onions, cheese & a hit of spice all wrapped up in a soft eggy crepe – I know I want one again this week!  (They do vege options as well).  Remember you can always take your own container to any vendor for them to fill & you to take home. (My one here in a bowl seen below).  Blue Willow Blueberries are planning to make it this weekend as well.  And for those that have been asking, Big Fat Cherry had a very short season & won't be back till next season (due to weather, picking, etc).

Remember, that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates, who have our tick of approval.  Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform & you will get a quality product while we ALL respect 1mt distancing between each other & Market stalls.

Remember to bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only.

And a reminder that food & beverages are to be taken OUT of the Market to be consumed, as masks should be kept ON at all times.

Remember your keep cup, return jars & containers.  Most of our vendors accept return jars & empty containers, etc from their products.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!  Thanks for shopping with us.

This Week in the kitchen

So much gorgeous produce available from all our amazing vendors! I'm filling my jars, freezer and belly at the moment... Here's a pretty damn delightful meal idea for you, I love me some zucchini and they are in plentiful supply, which suits me just fine. This raw salad sounds delicious and I imagine a peeler would do just as fine if you don't have a mandolin. I've also included a savoury and sweet option for eating up all those fresh Otago Apricots that are in season - Kristina.
