It's a French Invasion at the market this week!

21st June 2018

Hi there

IMG_0190.jpg

Today is the winter solstice and we can all take heart that the days will start to get a little longer. Matariki – the maori name for the star cluster known as The Pleiades which has just become visible in our hemisphere – and commonly known as the Maori New Year is also in full swing with many celebrations happening.

Personally I am making the most of the cold weather and long nights by cooking up hearty casseroles and calorie laden puddings. We all know that the cold weather uses up more of our energy and none of us want to fade away now do we???

This Saturday France takes on the AB’s and we are hoping to have a little light hearted fun at the market to commemorate the test. Some vendors have really got into the swing of things and Kate, our market chef, has created some luscious sounding French-inspired cuisine.

The Trust made a commitment to the future this week by purchasing a state of the art, virtually brand new mobile food unit. We will be combining both our market kitchen and the site office into this splendid mobile. It will take a few weeks before the new set up will appear at the market but when it does you will not miss it!!

See you Saturday

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

With us having a bit of a French invasion at the market this week with the Rugby test on Kate has whipped up some classic french style dishes including  Roulade, Croquettes and Terrine.

Pork, Fennel and Egg Terrine looks and sounds fabulous, a perfect snack to have while sitting down to watch the game if your'e not lucky enough to be there in person!

EXCEPTIONNEL THIS WEEK

By happy coincidence, this week we’ve got the latest version of our French farmhouse ale, Super Saison. We’re really happy with this version — fruity, spicy, citrusy — and at 8.0% ABV, it’s strong enough to share with friends. Sante!

Field Day.jpg

Went for our first look at National Field Days, Mystery Creek, last week.  This picture shows less than half of the tent town bristling with gadgets large and small plus , of course, some pretty cool toys!

Did you know?

When tasting a good Extra Virgin Olive Oil, you're looking for a balance between fruitiness, bitterness and pungency (peppery).  We harvest and press our oils by varietal and now we're blending to get the balance just right.

We will be taking a little break from the farmers market after this week so we can set up our new shop and kitchen on Vogel Street (yay!).

So I have a few extras of everything, including new smaller trial sized Coffee Boost and Reishi Mushorrom powders so you can stock up while I am away. We will be back refreshed with a new kitchen and hopefully some exciting new products mid July. See you Saturday!'

Road Works outside the market

ttm.jpg

The DCC Decided to delay these works due to the rugby game and the extra visitors in town.

So now from 25th June Fulton Hogan will be working on Anzac Ave outside the Farmers Market site on the planned cycle-way and pedestrian improvements.

This work will take 3-4 months.

There will be no planned disruption of the Market on Saturday however, parks outside the market on Anzac Avenue will be unavailable while the work persists.

Thank you for your patience over  this time. The end result will be much more pedestrian and cycle friendly.
