We can't wait to see you at the market!

23rd May 2019

Hi there

henrywithbluecheese.jpg

There's something so beautiful about these chilly, late autumn mornings. The sun takes its time to warm up, and everyone is bundled in their cozy sweaters and cradling warm cups in their hands.  The market is a touch more quiet this time of year, but none the less rich with produce and delicious treats to bring color and wonderful smells to your kitchens.

We are excited to have a new vendor starting this Saturday! The Natural Dairy will be bringing their fresh milk to the market, and this week they will be placed where NZ Nuts were situated just a couple of weeks ago. They would love to get to know you and share their story!

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

~Kara

This Week in the kitchen

Our wonderful chef Kate Woodhouse is back at the market kitchen this Saturday, and goodness, does she have some delicious treats in store for you! Make sure you pop by the site office for the recipes and a chance to chat with Kate, not to mention taste some of her creations. We have a feeling the spiced pumpkin cake with maple cream cheese icing will be eaten up in a hurry, so it might be a good idea to come a little early!

If you can't make it to the market this weekend and desperately want the latest recipes (plus heaps of others), then make sure to check out our recipe page here. It really is a treasure trove of ideas!

Wild Dispensary

Rosehip tonic.png

Needing immune support for the family during the winter season?

We love using our restorative tonic range for gummies...especially the Rosehip tonic which is high in vitamin C, and the Immunity tonic with black elderberry (An immune superstar). Research suggests that around 70% of your immune system resides in your gut! So gummies made with the gut healing superstar, gelatin and our range of 100% natural tonics are a win win for your immunity!

Simply combine,

1 cup liquid (we use water)
1.5 tablespoons of good quality gelatin
6 teaspoons Wild Dispensary Tonic (or to taste)

Simply dissolve liquid and gelatin on a low heat. Add your favourite tonic and stir for 5 mins. Make sure not to boil. Pour into ice cube molds or a container (just cut into cubes later). Put in the freezer to set...and done!

Dunford Grove

Dunford Grove:
We're close to harvest but not quite there yet. Now, frost is a real concern. The olives will be OK down to about minus 3 degrees but any lower and we've lost them!
In the past we've employed dozens of "smoke pots", consuming hundreds of liters of diesel a night with the heat going strait up into the night sky!
Here's the new system. A generator and a couple of diesel heaters firing horizontally under the tree canopy allowing the heat to gently rise through the foliage. So now, it's a slow drive up and down every second row in the small hours. Worked well on its first deployment Tuesday morning and, even more appealing, the 12 liters per hour fuel consumption.

Did you know?
Big containers of Extra Virgin Olive Oil may not be such a great deal!
So, you found some liter bottle of extra virgin olive oil at a great price, the reality is if you don’t use it quickly (an opened bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil should be consumed within 6-12 weeks) you are missing out on a lot of those antioxidants that are sensitive to oxygen. Leaving a container with olive oil less than half full for a long time can be detrimental to those protective compounds. Buy smaller bottles or alternatively empty the olive oil into small dark bottles and keep them closed so that the exposure to oxygen is minimal. But fresh and often is our advice.
