Hi there
There will be a great variety of vegies & fruit back this weekend & it's looking to be a sunny morning. I’m looking forward to trying Tunanopal’s new Mexican winter Market menu which sounds fantastic, swapping a jar back for one of Marie’s fabulously addictive medium spiced kimchi, getting Gilbert’s great rye sourdough, a bottle swap of Holy Cow milk, Agreeable Nature Eggs & whatever Petra & Anika from Ronia & Pippi have created this week along with their delicious fresh almond mylk. Time to restock the pantry & fridge – all the basics are covered at the Market & they just taste way better than the supermarket, often at a better price (think Nigel's organic vegies at Oamaru Organic's) as it's a farm to table price without all the middling meddling people!
I highly recommend you check out Tartan Sari’s brand-new green chutney (if you like coconut cream & Janefield’s coriander). I had a taste of it while Danielle was experimenting with the recipe & then the Market board of trustees all tasted it this week at the monthly board meeting & it was declared delicious (the lime pickle is pretty amazing too). Something for all.
Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!
Remember to scan in at the cones at any of the entrances, see you Saturday.
Ngā mihi

This Week in the kitchen
Chef Amy is still a week or two away repairing her fractured arm so instead we have gone Leek mad on the recipe archive front, with a bright and delicious potato soup that includes Rocket! Yeah.... (yes, I do sing Def Leopard to myself every time I use this tasty green). Which you could have with the leek & blue cheese pizza and/or the gratin... if I could add a GIF of Homer Simpson drooling here, I would... get these ingredients and much more, from the amazing vendors at the Market! Hello Picklelovers.
We have two new offerings at the market from this week. Lime pickle, which is similar to our Orange and Lemon but with more ZING, and another family favourite ‘Green Chutney’. Made from coriander and coconut, the unique flavour is unlike anything you have tasted. It adds a freshness to any meal and is perfect as a dip with cheese and crackers, drizzled over nachos or simply spread onto a slice of bread. Check out that beautiful bright green!
Our products are plant-based, and we always have free tastings at our stall, so come and have a try. We put them in order of spice level so you can start at the bottom and work your way up…how far will you go?!
Remember to return your jars for 50c off your next purchase.

Who Ate All the Pies?

This week at the market, two occasional specialist favourites.
After being berated relentlessly for the return of the red-hot chilli mince made with the world’s hottest chilli Sauce ‘Fire Dragons Fury Insane Chilli Sauce.’ It contains Carolina Reapers, Trinidad Scorpion Morugas and Bhut Jolikia chilli varieties and all grown in Northland! A must for all ‘chilli heat’ fans! - we’ll be running these stocks down over the next 2-4 weeks so don’t miss out!
Also, back by popular demand our end of season ‘Steak & Bluff Oyster’ single pies absolutely delicious $7 each or 3 for $20 - there won’t be any more until next year so fill your gumboots while you can!
Also, lastly we’ve still got some frozen venison over-bakes, great tasting (slightly dark) pies $10 each while stocks last! First come first served!
See you there Steven & team.
