This Week at the Farmers Market

Saturday 25th June 2022

Hi there

Mānawatia a Matariki! Hopefully you get to do something nice around this celebration, appreciation & remembrance.  My Matariki challenge this year, has been to view the star cluster every morning while it is visible, getting up pre-dawn warmly rugged up on my deck chair on the frosty lawn, then back to bed to warm up, followed by a brisk sunrise walk to the beach.  My plan is to do that each morning over the Matariki celebrations if it’s a clear sky (which we have been lucky with gorgeous clear skies the last few nights & a good crunchy frost!). Hopefully we can all form our own rituals & traditions if not already & in our own way.  Saturday is looking warmer with no frost so perfect Market conditions!

We have a ton of winter vegetables this weekend - pumpkins, squash, very frost sweetened yams & parsnips, so many varieties of potatoes, leek, celery, fennel, shallots, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes, silverbeet, carrots, etc along with many varieties of apples and pears (good for a nice hot crumble). There are plenty of options if you are planning on cooking a feast or pot luck for family or friends.

As usual we have lots of brunch options to dine in outside (or up on the platform undercover) along with hot coffee and hot chocolate. Many of our vendors have samples for you to try before you buy.  And check out Tartan Sari's seed crackers - they are very delicious!

Just a reminder note, that no dogs are allowed inside the Market areas (unless they are care dogs).  You can tie your dog just inside the front fence near the Market caravan & we can keep an eye on them & give them a pat from time to time.  Also; we have a no flier handout rule around the Market please.

Remember your keep cup, return jars & containers to keep the ReUse cycle loop working & bags for vegies, fruit & even bread. Look out for our ReUse posters on vendors stalls on those that can accept packaging back.

For those of you who maybe isolating or homebound we have a few vendors that can deliver to your door during the weekBrightside Microgreens, Gilberts Fine Foods, Ettrick Gardens, Waewae, Ronia & Pippi, Agreeable Nature Eggs, Blue Mountain Butchery, Tartan Sari, Dunford Grove, Evansdale Cheese, Oamaru Organics, Port Larder, Harbour Fish, Havoc Pork, Blueskin Bay Honey, Wild Dispensary, Judge Rock Wines, Hazelnut Estate, Matheson & Roberts, Bennies Honey, Whitestone Cheese, Breads & More, Dunedin Craft Distillery, Princes St Butchery & others.  All their contact details you can find on our website www.otagofarmersmarket.org.nz under vendors.

Bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only.

We encourage MASK use & respecting everyone’s space within the Market please.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!  Wishing you well and a safe, cozy Matariki weekend, enjoy!

Hello, Picklelovers.

It has been wonderful being able to offer pickle tastings again and we’ve had so many compliments about our seed crackers that we have decided to sell them.

Pick up a 120g bag for $6 and grab a jar of pickle or chutney to go with them. Whitestone and Evansdale will be able to provide some delicious cheeses to complete the perfect winter evening snack at home.

The crackers are made with rice and buckwheat flours and a mix of nutritious seeds including chia and sesame. Yum!
