This Week at the Farmers Market

25th September 2021

Hi there

OFM (4).png

Well; I received good news directly from Minister Hipkins office this week, we can now be categorized as Retail (like we were in the past) rather than an Event.  All my letters, phone calls, exposure in the media, the lobbying letter from the board & the letters from farmers markets around the country were listened to so we can get out of the ridiculous position we found ourselves in with the 100 people restrictions.  This is brilliant news for our Market going forward & fills me with hope for our vendors & supplying fresh produce & products to you all.  The board & I have decided we will allow numbers to 300 at any one time for now (which are similar to numbers at this time of year) to ensure easy management of everyone staying at 2mt distancing, wearing masks, etc.  This is the only way we are allowed to open the numbers & keep everyone safe ongoing.  This will ensure an easy flow through & into the Market & things will feel pretty much back to a new ‘normal’.  Heck, there might even be some music to soothe the soul.   I think you will all agree we just want to get to Christmas in a relatively normal state – whatever that means these days.  Can’t believe it’s daylight savings this weekend already, I know I’m ready for summer anytime soon.  We are expecting more vendors back this weekend & there will be bread again, so things are looking up!

Thanking those who supported us again last weekend, everyone was fantastic at following the rules you good sports & sorts!  Queues were between 5-15mins & flowed well.  But this week I think it should be very easy for everyone to get in to shop with the extension on numbers.

Kakanui Produce are returning for the season this weekend, will be lovely to see Viv & Chris back, I know they are bringing grafted tomato plants with them.

So, in short, the same protocols are in place this week, mask wearing (unless you have an exemption or for children), scanning in & keeping the 2mt distancing.  Please use the MAIN MIDDLE GATE on Anzac Ave & depart from there as well (all other gates are blocked off).  If you are parking in the north carpark, please walk around to the main front gate, this is so we can track numbers.  There should be an easy flow, so we won’t have the click & collect table this week.  We also ask if you could please take food off site to eat from our many ready to eat vendors.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend!  Bring your cash, bags, keep cups, containers, mask, charged phone for scanning & your good selves, we look forward to seeing you.

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market.

Ngā mihi

This Week in the kitchen

I once again dug into the archives for some nice simple recipes to be made with the amazing produce on offer from our incredible, hardworking vendors. Either of these could be whipped up as a tasty snack, or the bruschetta as a yummy breakfast alternative, and the carrots to accompany a main dish.  Kristina.
