This Week at the Market

26th September 2019

Hi there

In typical ‘spring has sprung’ fashion, it’s all over the shop weather wise as we clock over into daylight savings from Sunday.  Which means, the new season heirloom tomato plants from Waikouaiti Gardens make a welcome appearance with variety names that make me think of an olympic team, Kakanui Produce is back. Also Sandy from Dunford Grove in Cromwell is back this week with his delicious fresh olive oils, there is always something new to discover around the market hub.  We had a great, busy, buzzy market last weekend with all the Fleetwood Mac crowds so this weekend will be a breeze to find parking & get yourself down for a feed, a coffee & a catch up at one of the variety of food stalls or to do your market shop.

We would like to acknowledge this week that Waitaki Bacon & Ham, after nearly 13 years at the Otago Farmers Market & as a familiar face to many have left the market.  Sue & Gus will be concentrating on the bigger picture for their business but will be still providing the local area online with their great, ethical, local products.  I was always personally a fan of their wonderful pork & fennel sausages.  We wish Sue & Gus all the best as they step aside from the farmers market.

See you all on Saturday…

Kind regards

Michele

Assistant Manager

Dunford Grove are Back!

Dunford Sept 2019.jpg (1)

Hello, have you missed us?  Our long awaited oil test results are back and we've been blending and bottling like mad!  Just so we'll be back on Saturday!

This years oil is just on the lower limit of intense and the peroxide value is nice and low.  It's fruity, a little pungent and not too bitter.

Did you know?  Extra Virgin Olive Oil is at its best fresh!  Anyone can determine if an Olive Oil is fresh.  Warm it in a pan or pour it over a bowl of hot soup, breathe deeply, fresh olive oil smells like olives.  There may be notes of asparagus or artichoke, more or fewer echoes of fresh cut grass but the fruitiness should be front and centre!

Waitaki Bacon & Ham Message from Sue & Gus

Sue Morton Pic.jpg

Attention Loyal Dunedin Customers.

As many of you know the WBH journey started 12.5 years ago at the fabulous Dunedin Farmers Market.  In this time we’ve grown as a business, had many a laugh down at the railway station and enjoyed the early mornings – rain, hail and even snow.  Met great locals; chatted over a Bacon Bap, all the while ensuring you have the best locally grown NZ award winning pork in your fridges.

A new chapter for us is emerging that unfortunately see us moving on from the market. We had hoped to service your pork needs seasonally at the market, but alas not to be…

For those wanting to continue eating our delicious award-winning product (we think that is all of you) please do keep in touch with via:

Mental Health Awareness Week Fundraiser

Philip marathon.jpg

Recognise this guy?!  We love Philip at the market.  You will have seen him (you usually can’t miss him) around as one of our trusted site managers. He has raised $600 so far, fundraising for Mental Health in the San Francisco & the Dunedin Marathons with Queenstown coming up in November.  As it's Mental Health Awareness Week you might like to support his fundraising.  Feel free to chat to him further about it this weekend as he scoots about the market.
