This Week at the Farmers Market

27th March 2021

Hi there

OFM YOU'VE NOT REALLY BEEN TO (apricot) NFMW.png

Be in quick smart to get the last of the apricots this weekend, Te Mahanga & Earnscleugh should still have a few…

Pleased to finally see the rain around this week, my lawns have been crunchy for weeks & I know it will be a welcome relief for many growers if it has at least hit the surface after our long, warm, dry summer in Otago.

If you haven’t already tagged a friend in on our Otago Farmers Market Care Package draw for National Farmers Market Week you have until 4pm Friday 26th March to nominate someone deserving.  You will find the draw on our Facebook or Instagram page.  Thank you to many of our primary producers at the Market who have contributed to the 2x (heaving) bags!

I might have to try an early hot cross bun from Gilberts this weekend, my usual rule is wait till it's actually Easter, but crazy to think it's the end of March already.

See you at the Market!

Ngā mihi

Marie’s Specials this Week:

maries.JPG (2)

We have new seasonal fermented veges this week:  Organic red cabbage & yellow beetroot with a bit of spice. Some people ask me, how do we eat the fermented vegetables, and what do we do with them? Well, you can include them in sandwiches, pitas, tacos, burgers… Or just have some on the side of your plate and mix with the food you are eating, as a condiment. I love to have it on a piece of toast or crackers, with some (vegan) cheese and put it on top. As these products are alive, keeping them in the fridge is a way to stabilise them, be aware the jar is never sealed. If it is, then, it means the product you are buying has been through a cooking process, which would have killed all the good bacteria that is so good for your guts! All my fermented vegetables and my jams are bottled with recycling jars. Thank you so much to bring them back, it is so helpful. See you at our stall for samples, burgers, fresh tempeh, pancake sandwiches, low sugar jam or fermented vegetables.
