Hi there
Hope you are all ok this week in these uneasy times. The weather has made it a bit easier with a few warm summery days this past week, the garden has woken up, the birds are louder & our pets are enjoying more daytime company. All the other stuff, well, hmm. Livelihoods are precarious especially around primary produce which is perishable. But the good news is we can still operate as a Virtual Market for our customers. A list of your favourite vendors who are able to provide a contactless delivery service safely to your house is growing by the day. I know Kristina our assistant manager has been making good use of these services & my neighbours & myself (I actually haven't had to leave the neighbourhood once yet!). Have a read below & keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates & you can always find your favourite vendors details on our website www.otagofarmersmarket.org.nz if you need to get in touch. And it's the little things right now that can make the day to day difference - keeping in touch & to a routine of sorts, getting to bed at a decent hour, daily walks & fresh air, remembering to eat well, (does lockdown baking count?), yes I think is the answer!
The physical market WON’T be open this weekend; but you can still Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Virtual Market!
Take care & stay safe in your bubbles.

This Week in the kitchen
We've found some more delicious and adaptable recipes in our archives... you could swap out the veges in the frittata to whatever you have on hand, and have snuck some veges in your lockdown carbo loading! A good time to pop some spinach, kale or beetroot into your baking, to make snack time seem somewhat healthy!

Catlins True Brew & Kitchen - A Little Lockdown Ditty
|
Collective groan...moan but you're not alone...we are all stuck at home unable to roam...
Across town... feeling a bit down... united by a lockdown frown... but oh so comfy in my dressing gown…
Plenty of time to rhyme... oh what to make... ooh shall I bake… yet another go at a sourdough show...
Chitter chatter on any matter...confine to online...but hey some glee... a simple smile sure helps for a wee while....
A friendly face...bit of a laugh... another joke... before the daily refuge… a soak... in the bath...
PJ all day... games to play... no haste... time to waste… just finding a way to keep them worries at bay
No hustle n bustle... no burble n babble... yep need another new hobby with which to dabble...
I suppose selling beer & cheer is just a job... to make a few bob... but oh how I miss the marvellous market mob...
Not seeing those lovely familiar faces... or firm favourite places... old bold buildings (the station)... the cathedral steeple...
But you know what is hardest... without a doubt I shout... hissing... because I'm really missing... you beautiful people!
P.S oh and in case I forgot... a message to pitch across the ditch to dullard Scott...
We really don't give a jot... whether you like what we're doing or not...
Just more garbled garbage... spewing forth yet again from your facial slot...
Cheers Toby

Ettrick Gardens
|
The silver lining to being in lockdown is we are getting fantastic weather! 22 degrees during the day and 12 at night. And the promise of a little rain tomorrow to make everything grow. The stone fruit trees are starting to blossom. Daffodils are flowering and the Paeonies are popping through. Magic. John has been sowing and planted plenty of Spring Produce – Something to look forward to! And I have been busy sending out Courier Orders of Fruit and Veggies
OUR COURIER SERVICE IS STILL AVAILABLE ANYTIME.
Email j.hpreedyege@actrix.co.nz for our latest order form and we can add you to our weekly update.
Hope to see you all soon. Even if we all have to wear masks and stay 2 metres apart. Take care of each other out there.

Gate Collection was to be for Daffodil Day (Cancer Society) Online Donations Instead
|
Our Daffodil Day Street Appeal has been cancelled in Otago and Southland. Daffodil Day is a crucial event for the Cancer Society, providing us with financial support for our essential services to New Zealanders with cancer. COVID has once again taken from us the opportunity to raise these much-needed funds. It’s also taken the gift of time that you kindly gave us. But we can fight back against COVID and against cancer.
You can still help.
Normally we wouldn’t ask but these are extraordinary times.
This Daffodil Day, what we ask from you is to please donate generously at www.daffodilday.org.nz #daffodildaynz.
Cancer doesn’t stop, and with your help, neither will we.
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the restrictions in New Zealand. The health and safety of our community comes first, and we will do our best to support everyone during these times.
And finally, please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
Kind Regards, Emma Anderson
