This Week at the Farmers Market

Hi there


Our aim is to keep that local essential supply chain running as smoothly as possible throughout the coming months to feed the community.  We will remain open through this RED phase as per normal with your help – everyone wearing masks correctly (if not exempt), keeping a respectful 1mt distancing, scanning in, staying away if unwell, taking coffee & food offsite to consume & your continued support of shopping with us.  Shop & go will also avoid any queuing & keep distancing safer in our outdoor Market.

This week the old Hussey & Laredo caravan will be back with new owner Evi who will be rebranding as Bagelo’s with the same menu, same vanguard coffee & in the same spot.  Welcome Evi & we wish Tom all the best in his studies this year as he moves on to new adventures, he will be missed in the retro caravan in what has been a Market success with a strong following. 

Remember, that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates, who have our tick of approval.  Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform & you will get a quality product while you all respect 1mt distancing between each other & Market stalls. 

Bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only.

And a reminder that food & beverages are to be taken OUT of the Market to be consumed, as masks should be kept ON at all times.

Do your shop & then grab a coffee & brunch on the way out to takeaway (there's always the lovely garden outside the Railway Building for a picnic).

Remember your keep cup, return jars & containers.  Most of our vendors accept return jars & empty containers, etc from their products. 

Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!  Take care of each other & see you Saturday & as always, thanks for supporting local.

This Week in the kitchen

I found some delicious seasonal recipes in the archives making great use of all that amazing stone fruit and berries that are in abundance. Including a unique, refreshing and tasty salad that combines nectarines and peaches with tomatoes. Some berry muffins and a to die for sounding cheesecake that includes blueberries, which are a superfood that help with inflammation issues, so surely that counts as health food right? Hi, we will be at the market this Saturday and we hope to see you there. Come up to the platform, look for the big RED van to find the yummiest Central Otago fruit. CHERRIES, APRICOTS, PEACHES, NECTARINES, BLUEBERRIES plus so much more. 

We still have fresh, delicious, gorgeous cherries this Saturday we will bring LAPIN cherries (maybe a wee few Sweetheart cherries), plus our amazing SOUR CHERRIES (but last week's so stock up now)

Our Stone fruit is amazing. Remember you can mix the same priced fruit in one paper bag and get a wee taste on Central. Stone fruit is so sweet, juicy and at its best.  


APRICOTS, Including the much-loved MOOREPARK spray free Apricots. If you want bulk jam apricots, please txt and order some. 

NECTARINES (white and yellow flesh)

A great deal on BLUEBERRIES. 1 punnet for just $6 or 2 for $10.... hurry they sell fast.

After a very relaxing and hot family holiday in Twizel we are excited to be back at the OFM this Saturday.  Getting back into our routine has not been hard and we have been busy processing nuts for roasting, making flour and hazelnut chocolate spread in preparation for Saturday.  

Due to supply costs rising over the last few months we have been forced to increase the price of our delicious hazelnut chocolate spread.  A jar of spread will now cost $10.  However, if you return the jar and lid, we will lower the cost of your next purchase to $9.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.  

A prize for the first customer who can correctly name the mountain in this photo!




Scanning In & Masking Up helps us keep open. 

Everyone welcome but PLEASE STAY AWAY IF UNWELL (vendors & customers).

EVERYONE to SCAN in at the entrances (manual slips provided as well).

We ask that everyone including our vendors please wear a FITTED MASK CORRECTLY OVER MOUTH & NOSE to enter the Market (unless you have an exemption or are a child). 

Please sanitize your hands upon arrival.  

Please respect the 1mt distancing rule between all vendors, staff & customers at the market.

Please only handle food & produce that you are going to buy.  

Please take away ALL food & drinks to consume offsite.  NO eating or drinking inside the Market. 

Please sneeze into your elbow.


Cash still accepted.

Please be PATIENT & respect each other’s space.

There will be no tables, chairs, cup library, water fountain or Market Kitchen available this weekend.

Please bring your coffee keep cups, etc with you & bottle / jar returns, etc.


Caitlins True Brew & Kitchen - a Love Letter


Think we are all a tad anxious about the weeks ahead... not knowing... Didn't want to sit on me arse doing nowt... so trying to be proactive have penned a love letter from a vendor (well me) to farmers markets... our communities... our people... Cheers Toby

"Oh no... here we go again...well not quite have had it rather easy in the deepest south... let's be fair no rocky ride on the coronacoaster for you down there...alright fair point...

Come on we sort of knew it would happen...what even down here in the far flung wop wops...yep "when not if" and all that...but it was so easy to retreat into sunbeams and daydreams...lazy hazy holidays...the kiwi summer...nice...just larking about...chilling in our pacific paradise...

We cannot… must not let this dastardly viral spiral turn the summer into a bummer though...

There's been lots of chatter about the health system, but I reckon another thing that does really matter is how we help… look out for each other...

Let's celebrate and champion our communities which embrace...embellish...enhance our lives and landscapes...a warm fuzzy cultural cuddle in each and every community huddle...

Alright the cynics amongst you might say "stop it so cheesy"...but don't really give a monkeys ..when seriously tested "all we need is love" as four stellar fellas once suggested...

So here is the rub...the local...that wondrous community hub...

Should fess up that...yeah disclaimer wife & I have a stall at the Otago Farmers market (indubitably the finest in the land...only joshing...hearing you in Hawkes Bay...Nelson...Clevedon...windy Welly...the Cantabrian capital citadel of the mainland...and many many much terrific tipple and tucker to treats, sensational eats...oh yeah...this is the good stuff alright...

And every market I have been to is chock a block with not only good stuff but really good get to eat local...and meet n greet the locals who lovingly made, brew, grew it....knowing who...where...when... whatever's going down is from....come on how cool is that...nice...

Down in delightfully diverse and dynamic Otago (more parochial piffle...) the glorious glut of nature's sweeties are dangling...a tempting tease from the lushly laden trees...ah the fantabulous fruit festooned frenzy...and no we're aren't smug but course we know we've got some of the best stone fruit in the whole damn world...have you tried the cherries...bloody hell the berries..

Verdant veggies literally spill over the trestle tables... don't miss this bucolic bliss...I mean mother nature definitely has a wee soft spot and big smiles for our blessed isles...she just keeps on giving...we doff our metaphorical caps madam...

What is this bloke waffling on about....?.. get to the point pretty please...

Okay...across Aoteoroa there is another bumper harvest.... yippee! Don't...won't let it go to waste.... sip...sup...snaffle...slurp...cheeky sneaky burp...all the good stuff on your doorstep stoking and stroking the senses... Well it would be rude not to right....(I sell beer in Dunners every think local and drink local...well get the little plug in.. so sorry)

Hold tight might get a tad emotional now.... steady... but so proud of our communities...all our beautiful people & places...those familiar friendly faces..

Loads of us have familamadingdong spread far and wide... you look at Boris the buffoon blighted blighty and it's so seriously shadily scary...

So go on guys...keep Living Local... Loving local... let's be francis... the big boys are going to be okay... they have been covid coining it... kerching... they're not exactly short of dosh right...

A humungous hug to each and everyone of you fantastic folks who have supported and keep supporting all the vendors in Dunners...and at farmers markets across the country...even I don't have the words to say how much your unwavering support has has been literally making sure we can put food on our tables as you eat our food on your neat… tip top.... sweet...

Is he still rambling on.... sorry but my parting gambit is a little not so witty bitty ditty I wrote for the Otago Farmers market newsletter when the first lockdown hit nearly two years ago.... seriously... that's mad...I know...where did it all go...

Still think this sort of sums it up... cheers 

Market Matters

"A wee ditty about the loudly, proudly beating heart of our oh so pretty city.

The bustling throng sauntering along to the rolling strolling soundtrack as a busker hums, strums and sings their song.

That friendly familiar face offering, proffering only the finest foodie fayre made with love and care to share in a one stop shop, a truly hallowed place.  

Come for a natter or just revel in the cheery chatter as we meet, greet and eat whatever the weather because for once it doesn't even matter.

Feast your eyes...on the fruit, veggies, flowers, and pies...a treasure trove, Dunner's own orchard grove through which we loyally, royally rove.

For a while we will all mourn after dawn on a Saturday's not fair that we are not there for our much loved victual ritual in our locavore lair.

But we will meet again for our rootle and pootle through the epicurean sights and delights...we may not know when but we will never ever forget where." 

Yep I've said it before but am going to say it just one more time... cos I can... this is a beautiful place full of beautiful people... we are so bloody lucky...
