This Week at the Market

30th April 2020

Hi there

garlic te mahanga.jpg

Level 3 and nothing much has changed in my bubble except for being able to click and collect more landscaping supplies!

It is interesting the new vocab that is creeping into everyday language, we are certainly in the thick of it as we plan for the market to re-open once we reach level 2. When this may be is so dependent on people behaving themselves now.  Fingers crossed that once the giddy euphoria of queuing for favourite fast food fixes is behind us we can all remember that this is a long game and caution and sticking to our bubbles is the way forward, for a while yet.

Be kind, eat well, support our vendors where you can and enjoy this gorgeous, autumnal weather.

Best regards

Kate

Dunford Grove - Life in the Grove

Dunford Grove.jpg (1)

We discovered all sorts of interesting equipment that came with this property, including this baby fertilizer spreader.

When we prune there's a large amount of firewood produced, which goes through the log burner in the living room.  The cooled ash produced goes back into the grove, an easy job thanks to the spreader!  The minerals that the trees have taken up while growing returned to the soil and available again for new growth.

Did you know?

An olive grows on one-year old wood so, this year's new growth will bear next year's fruit.  We aim when pruning, to completely replace the trees canopy every 5-7 years!

If you've been lucky enough to travel in Europe's older olive growing regions you may have seen olive trees with massive, aged trunks and a younger canopy, that's pruning!

Freedom! Because we need a chuckle!
