Fathers Day Weekend

30th August 2018

Hi there

Spring has been barreling along for the last few weeks ignorant to our human desire to define it by a calendar, but this weekend is a great occasion to get outside and celebrate it. We will have all our plant vendors in attendance at the market from this week so it must be time to give all your gardens some TLC!

This Sunday is Fathers Day and what better excuse to extend the celebration is to spend some quality time at the market with Dad. Whatever you like to do together the market can help, be it a tasty brunch, getting stuck in the veggie patch prepping things for the holidays or getting supplies to cook up a legendary feast for the following day.

My dad an I are planing to do a bit of brewing so we might have to get a couple of bottles of the market vendors brews for inspiration and a few ingredients to make the beer extra special.

Can't wait for the weekend and to see you all down at the market!

- Scarlett

This Week in the kitchen

Kates has been baking some wonderful treats in the kitchen to make us feel extra special. A real comfort treat that is bound to please the crowds this weekends is Apple turnovers. And when it comes to a good apple turnover we all know that the apples are the secret ingredient and where else are you going to get the best apples!

Greetings from Holy Cow!

new baby calf2.jpg

Well, we were caught a bit short last week, with strong demand for milk & cream. Never fear, we’ve rectified that and will have plenty of both this weekend, along with plain & flavoured yoghurts and mango lassi.
The barn is filling up at the moment and Spring is very much in the air with the new calves looking especially gorgeous in the sunlight filling the barn. We now have 5 new calves, with Majorie, Little friend Susan and Mousy all also due in the next week or two.
As always, we look forward to seeing your smiling faces and clean bottles on Saturday!
With warm regards from the Holy Cow team

Apricot sorbet.

These are dairy free and 43% apricots.

480ml tubs for you to take home, $8

Some of the comments we have had “amazing, delicious”

If you want a hot dessert then how about our apricot crumble. These are 65% apricot, topped with an oat, coconut and almond crumble.  Bake for 50 minutes from frozen.

We gave a crumble to the hedge trimmer man  and his comments were, “Apricot crumble is beautiful, nice to eat something out of a box with a bit of a story, wouldn’t have a problem recommending it”  Then he tried a galette and liked that even more, “ I really liked that big jam tart thing”.

Frozen apricots available in 500g packs for $5 or 1.2kg for $12, these are freeflow without stones ready for you to use.

We won’t be here on the 8th September because Irene is getting married, so we thought we better take the day off for our eldest daughter’s wedding!

Waitaki Orchards stall is up on the platform, at the end by the railway crossing.
