Never a better time to visit the market!

31 January 2019

Hi there

Heatwave!! I’m talking ‘bout a heatwave!! It has been a wonderfully hot week of weather which will continue until Saturday. There I’ve said it so it will have to be. We have endured two Saturday with rain and the vendors deserve a break.

There is a rumour that we will have fresh figs next week (9th) and that The Tart Tin will be back then too. Fresh fig aficionados will be very pleased with this news as will lovers of all things sweet.

Fairfield Blueberries will at the market again this week but not on 9th February. They may have one more market on 16th but this is not assured. Be sure to stock up on these delicious, fresh blueberries this week.

See you Saturday

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

Chef Kate Woodhouse is back in our market kitchen this Saturday, and she will be serving up quite a colourful array of dishes!  From rich, spiced poached plums, to a raw vegetable salad with bacon and miso dressing, we're pretty excited to have a taste and bring the recipes home to try out in our own kitchens!

Thank you to all the amazing customers and vendors at the market you have been amazing over the past 9 years.

2018 was a very hard year for me emotionally and physically so I am choosing to take a step back. I will miss you all but I will still be around Dunedin doing the odd event so keep an eye out for the Hangi Pie signs. Thank you for your support in rain, sun, hail and wind. You are all superstars.

I will miss you all.

News From Steamer Basin Brewing

lanesplash.jpg

This Saturday is our last day at the market with 'nano' beer.

We're taking a break until we open our new brewery and taproom in the Warehouse Precinct. We're moving into the laneway between Bond and Princes streets and you can follow our progress on Instagram.

We've been inspired by the market to make seasonal beer using local ingredients. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged us with fresh produce and feedback.

Dunford Grove

Bit of a rough week here; farewells are never easy, especially a long serving and faithful friend!  A ute off to the knackers yard and everything else going on makes this a week to forget.
Did you know?
A court in France has banned Roundup, a widely used weed killer that has glyphosate as its active ingredient! Citing potential health and safety risks, the ban entered into effect immediately following the ruling by a French administrative tribunal in Lyon on January 15.  When will the rest of the world wake up?
Here at Dunford Grove we are proud to operate in a "spray free" environment and are sure that this has contributed to the property's boost in productivity under our care.

This week at Otago Organics

Akane-Pomme-20141026.jpg

The new season’s fruit this week are Akane Apples. These are the most modern variety of fruit in our mainly heritage orchard. It is a Japanese apple developed in 1970. It is a medium sized cherry red eating apple with white crisp juicy flesh. Like all our apples it was chosen as a black spot free variety so can be grown without any spray treatments.
