Hi there
Nice to see the Market pumping last weekend with students back & the sunshine bringing everyone out. And it was good to have Kay back busking for short stints after her recuperation all this year, there are always good tunes & good times happening on a Saturday morning.
It’s the last weekend of #plasticfreejuly hopefully everyone can continue at least one habit ongoing now. Every little good deed we do for the planet adds up to a lot less waste at the Market & in our city. Keeping a cup or mug (& containers) in your bag & a spare in the glove box (if you drive), using cloth produce bags to bag up fruit & vegies when you purchase. I was thinking this week of all the things I do do, the things I could do & the things I should do around waste min. while having a chat with Pat & Esther our advisors on the Market board & I mentioned cloth bread bags & what a good idea they would be to add to the repertoire of our personal keep bags. One less paper bag used each week for me in the future. Esther at Gilbert’s of course was already looking into that idea & then Pat offered to sew us some in the coming weeks for customers to purchase at the caravan. It all helps to Reduce our Waste (& recycling) but reducing is key. And remember all our ready to eat vendors are happy to let you bring your own plate or container. So many of our vendors practice sustainability & exchangeability in their businesses, Wild Dispensary, Catlins True Brew & Kitchen, Holy Cow, Urbn Vino, Marie's Plant Based Foods, No 8 Distillery, Ronia & Pippi, Agreeable Nature, Merrall, BAY Rd, Tartan Sari, Oamaru Organic's, Dunford Grove, La Crepe, Hazelnut Estate, coKo Lounge & many more - all being plastic free as well. And not to forget many of our seasonal vendors away for the winter season who will be back soon.
Congrat’s to Merrall (the flower man!) & Alida with the their brand-new baby girl this week. We do love a Market bubba & look forward meeting her at their flower stall soon.
Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market!
Remember to scan in at the cones at any of the entrances, see you Saturday.

This Week in the kitchen
I've been fossicking about in the archives again (!!!) to find delicious seasonal recipes from all our amazing vendors... so, get dipping with some Brussels Sprouts & Miso Mayo, and warm your wee cockles with a Curried Yam soup (you could use Tartan Sari's Goan Curry paste if you want extra kick/heat!). Bay Rd
|
Hi all, if anyone has any spare Bay Rd jars and lids, could they bring them back to us this week at the market? It would be greatly appreciated! We are running short on the crunchy 480g jars in specific. Our next order of jars is on the way but has been slower than usual due to shipping delays etc. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations!

Alida and Merrall have a daughter (as yet unnamed) born at home on July 25th. Consequently, we will be staying home and snuggling with babies, rather than selling any flowers at the next few markets. We will see everyone again soon! Merrall
Ed: Please excuse the typo in our little ditty from us here in the office in our haste!

Hazelnut Estate
|
As some of our most discerning customers will have noticed, over the last couple of weeks nuts from the 2021 harvest have been on sale. Harvest this year occurred in April and it takes a few months for the nuts to "dry" out, to be processed.
We continue to be humbled by the incredible feedback we are receiving for our new product, hazelnut chocolate spread. We have seen another surge in our hazelnut flour sales these last two weeks, so get in early for this great gluten free option. It is excellent for baking, and we have even heard some of our customers are putting it in their yoghurt and smoothies - YUM.
Many thanks
Roger and Janine

Hello Picklelovers. If you blinked, you may have missed it. That’s how quickly we sold out of our new Green Chutney last week! Don’t worry, there is plenty more for this week so hopefully there is enough for all. As it is a fresh chutney, it only has a life span of 1-2 weeks so if you don’t think you will use it that quickly why not freeze some? I recommend using ice cube moulds, then just defrost what you need and enjoy.
We are getting to the end of our mini curry paste jars. They are a great way to sample our versatile curry paste and make cute little presents. They come with a recipe booklet and 1 teaspoon is usually enough to make a delicious mild/medium spice curry. We probably have enough stock for a couple more weeks and then will just stock the big jars. They are just too fiddly to bottle!

Marie's Plant Based Food Specials:

My recipe of Sauerkraut (cabbage or onion & garlic) and my Kimchi (mild, medium, or hot) are the same all year round. There is always a bit of difference from one batch to another, but not much. On the other hand, my seasonal fermented vegetables, depend on the season. I do all sort of combinations of vegetables, cut in different shapes with all sorts of spices & herbs. The result is never the same and quite amazing! It is unique to the farmer’s market to be able to try a sample, so come by my stall to have a taste. From the curious, sceptical, lover, and expert, you are all welcome! See you at the market, Marie
