Hi there
And hello summer! You came around fast, yet it seems so long ago that you were last here in these discombobulated times. Level 2 is now Orange this weekend, but some things stay the same for us. Rulings for farmers markets from the government mandate at Orange continue as we have all been doing under Retail. You are required to scan in & you must wear a mask (unless exempt). Please everyone respect 1mt distancing & while I personally would like to see everyone vaccinated, I know some people have their reasons that they haven’t & I respect that too, so let’s make it as safe as possible to operate. We can allow EVERYONE to shop at the Market as long as you are feeling well. Please continue to follow the rules (as so many of you have been doing for many months so splendidly!) & let’s get to Christmas & new year safely.
And a reminder that food & beverages are to be taken OUT of the Market to be consumed as masks should be kept ON at all times.
The Mosgiel Brass Band will be making an appearance on Saturday, I think reality will hit how close Christmas is once we hear those carols! And it must be summer as Alysan Willocks is back this weekend with her posies outside the Market caravan at main entrance & Earnscleugh Orchard up on the platform are returning on Saturday with first of the season cherries! And I have done some sampling for you this week, if you or your loved ones enjoy the flavour of elderflower then I can thoroughly recommend the elderflower liqueur at No. 8 Distillery on the platform, their elderflower liqueur is quite delicious & in the most gorgeous bottle. They have a new fresh pineapple rum as well, which does indeed taste like fresh pineapple! They also do a $5 off bottle swap on refills.
Our Christmas Market will be on FRIDAY 24th December this year (NOT on Saturday) & the following market is FRIDAY 31st Dec.
Remember too, that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates, who have our tick of approval. Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform & you will get a quality product.
We look forward to seeing you all this weekend! Bring your cash, bags, keep cup or mug, containers, mask & charged phone for scanning.
Shop your way around Otago this weekend…. at the Market! See you there.

This Week in the kitchen
It's summer! Oh my... BBQ season making itself known, so I thought I'd rustle up some great options for the toasty weather. I really really love a courgette/zucchini and Kakanui Produce have just started bringing the delightful wee suckers! They go perfect with most herbs and on a barbie. Get the ingredients from these great recipes from our amazing vendors! Kristina

We are doing some new tasty ales up on the platform… these riffs have fired and inspired this rambling ditty... and no, it isn't because my senses have been overly stoked and stroked by testing... tasting... me own grog… it is an arduous task though...
"Savour the lush hush...that palpable Proustian rush
Memories ripple tickled by a cheeky sneaky tipple
Ah yes... living beer bringing back the cheer of yesteryear
Yep we have always made marvellously magically moreishly malty brews...
But now there's also a helluva heavenly hoppy hullabaloo to choose...
There's even a seasonal shower of fantabulously fragrant flower power...well you've got to respect your elders…
It is the lore of yore once more to the fore... all hail the real ale tale...
And here is the nub... the rub... this flavour filled hubbub... just takes you to the pub..."
So, here's to sipping... supping... slurping... burping... tooting... hooting the good stuff…
Let's think local... drink… clink n sink local...
Chin chin.

Hello Picklelovers.
Are you all set for Christmas lunch? Why not try something a bit exotic and different this year like traditional Goan pork curry Sorpotel? This curry is truly a labour of love but oh so worth the time and effort. (I spent about 6 hours making it this week!) Our curry paste was specifically designed for this dish and if you eat meat, you simply have to try it. Havoc Pork have amazing cuts of meat and will be able to help.
Not a meat eater? Then use our paste to make our divine Red Lentil Dhal or Vegetable Coconut Curry instead. We have all the recipes at our stall! You can check our facebook or instagram pages for step-by-step instructions.

How often do we gripe about the price of something? Well this property has taught me to keep my mouth shut until I know what’s involved in producing whatever I’m thinking of moaning about! We pruned these Hazel Nut trees a month ago and here we are out there again on all fours because they’re suckering like mad, perhaps the real sucker is on the other side of the camera. But focus on the positive, our Dry Roasted Hazel Nuts are delicious.
I’ll be at the Cromwell Fete this Saturday, Zander will be up on the platform but again no EFT-POS this week.
Did you know: It’s coming up to Panforte time of year, you’ll find the recipe at www.dunfordgrove.com
Cheers Sandy

We have 2 new seasonal fermented vegetables (in picture). It’s time to boost your immune system, and one way is to bring some good bacteria in your tummy, so they won’t let the bad ones come in (this is a simple version of the story). Fermented foods are full of good bacteria and can improve your health. Some people ask me, how do we eat fermented vegetables? Well, you can include them in sandwiches, pita’s, tacos, burgers, salads, pasta, pizza… everywhere!! Or just have some on the side of your plate, and mix with the food you are eating, as a sparkle! I love to have a piece of toast or cracker, with some dip and a bit of them on top. See you at the market. Marie

Community Stall -K9 Medical Detection NZ
|
K9 Medical Detection NZ (K9MD) is delighted to have the opportunity to attend the Otago Farmer’s Market. K9MD is training dogs for the early detection of cancer. Using specifically trained dogs, and working in a controlled clinical environment, K9MD’s mission is to create an easy diagnostic urine test for the early detection of cancer. Results to date have been world leading and it’s happening right here in Dunedin. K9MD is a charitable trust and relies solely on support from the community. New Zealand has one of the highest rates of cancer in the world and K9MD is working to reduce those numbers by earlier detection allowing for earlier treatment. Please tell your family and friends about K9MD, as we work together to turn the vision into a reality.
