Hi there
Thinking of our many loyal Auckland customers and the growers, vendors & fellow farmers’ markets up North affected by the floods this week. And of course, many of us have loved ones surrounded by the flood chaos up there (& some local now too). I hope everyone is managing to stay safe, well and that things dry out soon at least.
We welcomed new vendor Adam from Ginger Fox Foods last weekend. He has created an innovative range of peanut butter made right here in Dunedin, which packs in loads of flavour & nutrients. So far, I have tried the Chunky Cinnamon Banana, and also the Crispy Buckwheat – both are delicious, I look forward to trying Ginger Lumpy Nuts next! Adam is up on the platform between the lovely folk at Ronia & Pippi, No 8 Distillery & Tartan Sari.
I enjoyed Oamaru Organic’s freshly dug organic agria spuds simply boiled this week, very creamy, sometimes it’s the absolute simple old school staples off the land (and good soil!) that taste so good! We are extremely lucky to have access to great produce (& very reasonably priced) from all our growers at the Market. Grab some flat peaches for the school lunchboxes from Earnscleugh Co-op Orchards & I see they have greengages appearing this week. Brendon will be back on the platform with delicious ripe figs.
We are lucky to have access to fresh free-range eggs at the Market. Agreeable Nature stay loyal to their Market customers making sure we get a great supply each weekend for which we are very thankful especially when you see supermarket shelves often empty of eggs & at crazy prices. An egg a day makes life good (I am glad I made the switch some time back from 2 to 1!).
We wish Ash at GUD Coffee all the best for her back op this week. So we have Classic Coffee with both of their coffee carts & team at the Market this weekend (usual spot & the other in the GUD Coffee corner) for all your caffeine needs.
For those of you who maybe isolating or homebound we have a few vendors that can deliver to your door during the week, Brightside Microgreens, Gilberts Fine Foods, Ettrick Gardens (vege boxes), Waewae (vege boxes), Ronia & Pippi, Agreeable Nature Eggs, Blue Mountain Butchery, Tartan Sari, Dunford Grove, Evansdale Cheese, Oamaru Organics, Port Larder, Harbour Fish, Havoc Pork, Blueskin Bay Honey, Wild Dispensary, Judge Rock Wines, Hazelnut Estate, Matheson & Roberts, Bennies Honey, Whitestone Cheese, Waitaki Orchard, NZ Nuts, Breads & More, Dunedin Craft Distillery, Princes St Butchery & others. You can find their details in the ORDER NOW button on our website www.otagofarmersmarket.org.nz
Bring CASH as some of our vendors are cash only. And remember your containers, produce bags, berry punnets, plant pottles, jars, bottles, keep cup, etc look for the ReUse posters on vendors that accept packaging back.
Remember, that only all our authenticated, verified Otago Farmers Market vendors are all within our gates who have our tick of approval. Make sure you support them inside the Market carpark & platform & you will get a quality product. We thank you for your loyal support!
Please respect everyone’s space & feel free to wear your mask and stay safe on the roads if you are travelling. Enjoy this summer hit we have here right now, even the beach water is warm!
Shop your way around Otago this long Waitangi weekend…. at the Market! See you Saturday.
Ngā mihi

Hello Pickle Lovers
I hope you have been having a great start to the New Year. I have been busy making heaps and heaps of Zucchini Pickles. We have completely run out of Tomato but hoping to be stocking up on that soon, I’m struggling without my favourite condiment and I’m sure you are too!
We will be away next weekend (11th Feb), so make sure to stock up on your favourites this week - chutney, seed crackers, spicy nuts and seeds and of course our pickles and curry pastes.
Come and have a try of my Apricot Pickle experiment, I eagerly await your feedback! Danielle

We’re back in the swing of being at the Market every Saturday morning to chat about herbs and natural health with you all.
Did you know we now have our own premise in ‘No Name Lane’ off the corner of Princes Street and Police street (alongside our ex-Otago Farmers Market friends – Steamer Basin). We'd love to see you! Our Cellar Door is open Monday to Friday, and we're usually here from 9-3.
Find us in the Bond Quarter, down the alleyway off Police St.
Swing by to chat with any of us about the range, or if it's specific medical advice you're after, then our Medical herbalist Skye is here on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! If you're not in Ōtepoti then you can always email!
You can Click & Collect from us, and we've got our full range available to buy in-store too! With Eftpos, because we'd all be lost without it.
We'd love to say hello! ❤️

Stonehurst Gourmet - Herb of the Week

CLOVE PINK (Dianthus caryophyllus)
A bushy clump of greyish-green foliage topped with either pink, red, scarlet or white clove-scented flowers - excellent for bedding or in pots.
Flowers can be added as edible decorations to salads, soups and sauces both fresh (white pith removed) or crystallized. The flowers were once used to make flavour beverages, especially wines and ales, as well as make savoury vinegar. Clove pink vinegar can also be inhaled to ease headaches and used as a massage oil for sore muscles. Flowers can be dried and added to potpourri for scent and colour. Likes full sun in rich, well-drained soils. Hardy perennial. Ht: up to 60cm.

What’s the saying “Mad dogs and olive growers.........”?
Well, it’s 30+ degrees and someone wants a glass house! Good thing I played with Meccano as a kid because this three-dimensional jigsaw is a bit of a challenge. See you on the Platform this Saturday, I’ll need to be away at about eleven, so please come early.
Did you know? We’ve had another excellent year for oil sales so it’s a big thank you to all of you lovely people. From this week we’ll cut back to attending the first and third Saturdays of the month. Now, last week's fig photo had a few asking if I was selling them, luckily Brendon came to the rescue. I’ll let you know if anyone asks for a lump of green metal!
