Hi there
What a difference a week makes. Back to Level 2 again, but we have been so lucky in Dunedin compared to most here & around the world. So….. the L2 rules are back in place this weekend at the Market. We will be OPEN; but we ask everyone as per usual to please stay away if unwell, please scan in on the QR codes on the cones (there will be manual sheets at the caravan if you don’t have a smart phone) at any of the entrances & only handle produce or product you plan to buy. We please ask everyone to respect the 2 metre rule in the Market.
It’s so good to have all the fresh pip fruit coming in now as well, Ettrick Gardens have Bon Chretien Pears, Star Crimson Pears, Sweet Lady Apples, etc. Willowbrook have new varieties of stone fruit coming in each week (Fantasia Nectarines currently), I love the swap-a -bucket concept & personally would love to see more of this around the market ongoing, so people can still buy in bulk by bringing in their own bags or returning the buckets. Earnscleugh Orchard are still heaving with peaches, greengages, plums, apricots, nectarines, etc as are others in the Market like Rosedale Orchard & Waitaki Orchard. All our favourites! We are so lucky in times like these to have a local supply of the freshest & tastiest produce on our doorstep to rely on to keep us healthy & happy & all at an affordable price.
Be sure to check out the handmade mayonnaise at Catlins Kitchen on the platform, I do love a good mayo without all the sugar & unnecessaries. I have tried a test batch from Deb from Catlin's & it's so good. Another new addiction to add to my shopping bag!
You may have seen Kristina Simons (pictured) around the Market over the last month or so, she is our new assistant manager (& duty manager at the Market if I get the weekend off). We are very happy to have her on our team.
See you on Saturday…

This Week in the kitchen
We can't have a chef or any tastings under Level 2, but we didn't want you to miss out on any tasty seasonal recipe idea's, so we rustled up some up from the archives. Make the most of the last crops of our deliciously sweet & tart Otago apricots!

Love mayonnaise? Well, who doesn't? Want to have the real deal? Then head for the station platform!
The mayo in the supermarket has preservatives, acidity regulators, stabilisers and even sugar in it. We use the freshest local free-range eggs, the best oil, a splash of white wine vinegar & a dash of Himalayan salt. That is it! You will taste the difference.... mayonnaise like it could and should be.
Made fresh on a Friday evening it lasts a week in the fridge, perfect to pick up each Saturday. It is only available at the country's finest farmer’s market.
We are passionate about doing things the right way and if you return the jar, you get a discount off your next one as they are cleaned, sterilised, and used again. Our pate will also now come in jars with a similar discount just like our eco rainwater beer.

Otago Hospice Street Appeal
|
The Otago Hospice had been booked in at our gates this weekend for their annual appeal. This in from them:
Given the situation, we felt that it was important we keep our volunteers and our community safe, and that means not having our volunteers and their buckets on the streets and in the supermarkets. It’s just not possible to maintain solid social distancing in this situation.
Obviously, it’s gutting to have to pull the plug, but we know that our community will rally to support us in other ways. We are asking those who might typically put money in the bucket to consider donating via our website. https://otagohospice.co.nz/donate
