Happy New Year!!!

7th January 2021

Hi there

OFMMarketPeaches.jpg (1)

Happy New Year everyone! Last week’s market was very cruisy and relaxed. Many vendors took the opportunity to take a short break with family but this week will see almost all the vendors returned and the market back to its pumping best. 2021 promises to be interesting and summer can't be far away!!

This time of year is just such a delight! Every week more seasonal items appear at the market and it gets harder to decide on what healthy options to select for the coming week!

Last week I spied soil grown tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and herbs, tasty salad greens, new season garlic and onions, peas, zucchinis, carrots, peppers, broad beans, spuds, white turnips … the list goes on.

On the fruit front we have peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums, berries, apricots and new seasons apples.

I harvested my garlic before all the rain and have been enjoying enormously eating copious amounts with just about everything I have. There is nothing like it's crisp pungency! And It is easy to peel when fresh!

Our hearts go out to everyone growing food who has been ill affected by the very un-summery weather we have been experiencing here in the south. There will be some vendors in North Otago happy to have had a decent (under statement!) amount of rain but the hail and torrential rain hasn’t been good for the cherries or stone fruit in other parts of our bountiful province.

See you Saturday
