Glorious Autumn - Celebrating this week at the market.

8th May 2019

Hi there

Harvest Celebration Events Poster.png

It’s looking like a good day for the Harvest Celebration on Saturday. Be sure to come on down and enjoy this very special day at the market. If you are bringing apples to juice then be sure to bring clean bottles or jars for the juice!

Check out our Facebook page for all the information. We hope to see some amazing entries in the Marrow Make Overs Competition and Craft Creations. Prize giving is at 11am!

We are celebrating our vendors this weekend with a vendor morning tea being served from the kitchen hub so sorry folks no tastings for the public this week. The air will be redolent with cinnamon and other warming spices as we serve pumpkin bread and apple butter, spiced apple juice and other delicious, autumnal fare. If you get tempted to try something for yourself the recipes will be available to you as per usual.

Jon Dumble from Queenstown will be at the market this week with in-shell hazelnuts and chestnuts. Sol from Doran Farms will also be present with a small array of yummy veg. We have been missing mushrooms at the market all season so be sure and visit Kate from Stonehurst Gourmet Mushrooms and stock up on her dried varieties.

See you Saturday

Kate

This Week in the kitchen

Harvest Celebration week is here!! We have a festive schedule planned for this Saturday, and our vendors are so looking forward to seeing you! Things will be a bit different than usual in the market kitchen this Saturday as well. We are providing a morning tea for our lovely vendors, so the kitchen will be closed to the general public. Have no fear though, because there are still some scrumptious recipes for you! Chef Eat with Kate has created some savoury treats you can whip up for an autumn evening with friends, and Kara (our market administrator) is sharing her favourite gluten free pumpkin spice loaf recipe. Give them a whirl and tell us what you think! Just visit here

Medlar, Orange & Lemon Balm Kombucha.JPG

Happy Harvest everyone! We are so looking forward to the Harvest Festival this weekend!

Farmers Market Special - Medlar, Orange & Lemon Balm Kombucha
Our market special this week is quintessentially autumnal: Medlar, Orange & Lemon Balm kombucha. We made a medlar cordial, using medlars from Alice at Otago Organics, and used that in the second ferment, along with an infusion of candied orange peel and fresh lemon balm. The result is rich, tangy and citrusy sweet, a lovely earthy aftertaste of the medlar.

Recipe on our Facebook and Instagram.

Kombucha on Tap (BYO Bottle)
Our tap options this week are:
- Reishi Chai (Reishi from Botanical Kitchen)
- Rhodiola Rose
Remember to bring your bottles!

Stonehurst Gourmet Mushrooms

Stonehurst Mushrooms will be at the market for the next 3 weeks! We have great store cupboard items as additions to winter casseroles or soups or to be used as the main focus of a meal! Along with these we also carry a range of actual different mushroom varieties such as Mixed Mushroom Soup (GF & vegan friendly) & Mushroom Chips (most flavors GF). Due to the disappointing autumn there are limited seasonal varieties this year.

NZ Nuts

hazelnuts and walnuts.jpg

A harvest celebration special 500g bags of Vina walnuts for $5.00!

We will also have inshell Vina, Franquette, Hartley walnuts – now is the time to stock up for the coming year. Store your inshell walnuts in a cool dry airy place and they will remain fresh next season – once walnuts are shelled remember to store them in an airtight container either in the refrigerator or the freezer and they too will remain fresh till the next season. ( If you store them in a pantry nut quality will deteriorate quickly.)

I have problems with the motor on the air separator for the nut halves and pieces – I may or may not have these in the market this week – it depends on the electrician!

I will also have some black krim tomatoes

See you Saturday!
