Bond with Dad through a mutual love of food

31st August 2017

Hi there

Just_Waste_Less_Poster_2.jpg

This weekend is Dad’s Day. We see many dads at the market hanging out with their kids, buying the weekly staples and oftentimes having a bit of fun as a family. It is heart-warming to see and Sunday is the day where we get to show our appreciation. The market is full of treats Dad’s love, such as wine, beer, cheese, chocolate, bacon and all things baked. Dads always appreciate  being cooked for so knock your Dad’s socks off with breakfast, lunch or dinner, cooked with love and the best quality ingredients from your local farmer’s market. Or Chef Dad might like a market apron, sturdy and styley.

Welcome back this week to Merrell MacNeille , our resident flower grower. He will start his season off with daffodils, glowing brilliant yellow, beside Brydone Growers.

We are super excited to be hosting our Waste Less Living day on September 16th. More and more of you are arriving at the market with your own produce bags and shopping bags. Have you considered bringing your own cup for coffee or container for ready to eats? On 16th we will be making beeswax wraps and bags from tshirts plus trialling a coffee cup library, providing free, recycled net curtain produce bags and recycled plastic bags. Community groups will be providing information on reducing food waste at home and in lunch boxes.

All new vendors to the market, as part of their application to trade and approval process, must demonstrate their waste reduction strategies and packaging.

Many of our vendors are super smart about reducing waste, check out the stories opposite. There will be more to follow in coming weeks.

See you Saturday  - it will officially be SPRING!
