It is a great pleasure to be able to celebrate 20 years of us operating as a Farmers Market. From the 4th of March we officially hit 20 years & what a great journey it has been. From the original foundation vendors in those first few months - some of whom are still vendors at the Market (John & Heather Preedy from Ettrick Gardens, John Gilchrist from Willowbrook Orchard, Donald Butler from Butlers Berries, Mike Cornelissen from Bacon Buttie, Pablo and Colleen Dennison from Evansdale Cheese & current others soon turned up) gathered together by a tenacious team with vision who fought hard for some time to get an idea off the ground and creating a solid charitable trust with authentic principles of operation that we still follow to this day. And the customers who kept coming back week after week to support & enjoy local. And to everyone who has made it a pleasure to attend on a Saturday morning ever since 2003. As a city, we have a lot to be thankful for & something we are all very proud of. We plan on celebrating with you over the course of our 20th year. But the big event on the social & culinary calendar is a wonderful way to gather your friends and family to celebrate 20 years of fabulous regional produce at the OTAGO FARMERS MARKET LONG LUNCH.
On Sunday 26th March 2023, join our single long table under cover on New Zealand's longest rail platform and enjoy a specially created seasonal long lunch showcasing the finest late summer produce from Otago Farmers Market vendors.
A truly seasonal menu; you and your friends will savour an entrée of fresh late summer flavours from the Market, a main of Otago Lamb served Greek-style in parchment paper accompanied by seasonal Otago vegetables and a dessert selection featuring Central Otago summer stonefruit preserved at the height of the summer and lovingly prepared.
This sustainable dining experience will feature a varied menu with lots of flavour and true to the Market’s commitment to authenticity. The menu will incorporate local produce and cater for varied options including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dining, while ensuring minimal waste.
Tickets include a welcome drink created from OFM vendors followed by a three course lunch of shared platters prepared by Precinct Food. A cash bar will serve libations from Otago Farmers Market vendors including No.8 Distillery, Judge Rock Wines, Dunedin Craft Distillery and Catlins True Brew.
This is a wonderful opportunity to honour 20 years of Otago Farmers Market by taking a few leisurely hours to celebrate the best of life; friends and whanau and locally harvested, seasonal produce cooked to perfection!
