Otago Farmers Market

interested in becoming a vendor at the Otago Farmers Market?

Many people are interested in becoming a vendor at the Otago Farmers Market. Every month we have a number of applications from people wanting to trade. Because we have a limited number of spaces at the market, unfortunately we can’t accommodate everybody and we regularly have to turn people down.

In order for your application to be successful you will need to be a local producer of a food item, from the Otago region. The Otago Farmers Market is a food market and we do not accept any vendors selling craft type products. All applicants wishing to sell at the market must be the person who has created the product. The Otago Farmers Market Trust specifically prohibits vendors from purchasing products and then on-selling them at the market.

If you are intending to make a food product to sell at the market you will need to have access to a registered kitchen. You will also need to be checked and approved by the Dunedin City Council before you can start to trade at the market. If your application is successful then the Otago Farmers Market Trust can assist you when dealing with the Dunedin City Council.

All people wishing to apply to be vendors at the Otago Farmers Market must fill out a vendor application form. This application form also contains the Terms and Conditions, and Code of Conduct, that vendors must adhere to if they wish to trade at a market. Please read these documents carefully, and then submit the application to trade form only.

Your application form is dealt with by the Otago Farmers Market General Manager. If the General Manager has any specific questions about your application then they will call you to discuss. The application is considered by the Otago Farmers Market Trust at their monthly meeting about the 20th of each month. You will be advised in the following weeks as to the result of your application.

When discussing any individual application the Trust and Advisory Board have a number of different issues to consider, such as available space at the market, existing market vendors and the balance of products on offer to the public.

You are welcome to contact the General Manager at any time to discuss your application.
